Following a Verdi Gala for the Santa Barbara Opera in September 2006, Daniel Sutin begins his sixth season at the Metropolitan Opera with the world premiere of Tan Dun’s The First Emperor, followed by Paolo in Simon Boccanegra. In early 2007 Mr. Sutin debuts the role of Orest in Elektra with the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto, ending his season at the New York Caramoor Festival as Conte di Luna in Il Trovatore. During his 2007-2008 season Mr. Sutin will make his debut at the Lyric Opera of Chicago in Die Frau ohne Schatten, and in 2008 he will make his Covent Garden debut as Sonora in La Fanciulla del West as well as debuts with Holland’s Reisopera as Germont in La Traviata and with San Antonio Opera as Valentin in Faust.

In 2005-2006 Mr. Sutin returned to the Metropolitan Opera in 2005-06 for Falstaff and Wozzeck, and sang Paris in their new production of Romeo et Juliette, followed by Silvio in I Pagliacci in Toledo, Ford in Falstaff for the New Jersey Opera Theater, his debut as the Count in Le nozze di Figaro with the Connecticut Grand Opera and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Long Island Symphony.

Mr. Sutin’s engagements in the 2004-2005 season included his debut at the Canadian Opera Company as Conte di Luna in Il trovatore, his return to the Metropolitan Opera for Turandot, Tonio and Alfio in Cavalleria rusticana and I pagliacci for the Bohème Opera in New Jersey, and the roles of the King, the Ambassador and the Woodcutter in the Spoleto Festival USA’s production of Respighi’s Sleeping Beauty, which was also performed at the Lincoln Center Festival. Mr Sutin began the season with the Johnstown Symphony in their annual Opera Gala and joined the National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico for Mahler’s Symphony No. 8.

Mr. Sutin’s 2003-2004 season included his return to the Metropolitan Opera as Shchelkalov in Boris Godunov under the baton of Simon Bychkov, and the One-Eyed brother in Die Frau ohne Schatten. He was also heard as Silvio in I pagliacci at the New Orleans Opera and in the title role of Wozzeck at the New Jersey Opera Festival. During the 2002-03 season, Mr. Sutin’s schedule included performances as Ping in Turandot at the Metropolitan Opera under the baton of Marco Armiliato. His Metropolitan Opera debut came in the 2001-02 season as the Journalist in Berg’s Lulu with James Levine conducting. Also in the season he appeared as Conte di Luna in Il trovatore with Bohème Opera Company. Other recent performances have included Ford in Falstaff with Sarasota Opera, Scarpia in Tosca with Bohème Opera Company, and a Gala Concert of Verdi operatic highlights with the Sarasota Opera.

Mr. Sutin’s European credits include performances at the houses of Frankfurt, Darmstadt, Stuttgart, Mönchengladbach, Basel and Zurich. His repertoire has included the title roles in Rigoletto, Eugene Onegin, Billy Budd, Wozzeck, Marcello in La Bohème, Figaro in Il barbiere di Seviglia, Germont in La traviata, Harlekin in Ariadne auf Naxos, Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro, Count di Luna in Il trovatore, Sid in Albert Herring, and Sharpless in Madama Butterfly. As a concert artist, Mr. Sutin has performed as soloist in Elgar’s The Dream of Gerontius, Orff’s Carmina Burana and appearances with Open Air Concerts opposite José Carreras.

Mr. Sutin was born in Albany, New York, and earned Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Voice at the Juilliard School.
