Born in Savona in 1975, he graduated in singing with full marks at the G. Verdi Conservatory in Milan and attended the specialisation courses under the guidance of Renata Scotto, Leyla Gencer, Robert Kettelson and Alessandro Corbelli.

Winner of the «Giovani Cantanti Lirici» Competition of Cagliari, he made his debut in the role of Guglielmo in Così fan tutte directed by Daniele Abbado at the Teatro delle Saline di Cagliari. He also is the winner of the «Joseph Robbone» Prize at the «G.B. Viotti» International Competition of Vercelli (1995) and the As.Li.Co. European Competition (1996).

He took part in the As.Li.Co.'s productions of Rigoletto (Marullo), Così fan tutte, Le nozze di Figaro and L'isola di Merlino by Gluck (first modern performance), toured in the major theatres of the regional circuit.

His great interest in the Mozart and Rossini repertoires brought him to perform the roles of Leporello at the Theater Schloss Schönbrunn in Vienna, Figaro at the Teatro Regio di Torino, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte at the Garsington Opera Festival, Fiorello in Il barbiere di Siviglia at the Teatro di San Carlo di Napoli and at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées de Paris, Gaudenzio in Il signor Bruschino at the OperaEstate in Milan, Halì in L?italiana in Algeri at the Teatro Regio di Parma and in Munich with the Münchner Rundfunkorchester, and the role of Taddeo in the same opera in Trento, Rovigo and Bolzano, Raimbaud in Le Comte Ory at the Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova, Don Alvaro in Il viaggio a Reims at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Dandini in La Cenerentola at the Opera Giocosa di Savona.

For what his activity in the baroque repertoire is concerned, Riccardo Novaro sang in Argia by Cesti at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées de Paris under the René Jacobs, Dido and Aeneas at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia di Roma, Dal male il bene by Abbatini and Marazzoli at the Innsbrucker Festwochen, Chapentier's Te Deum (recorded for Deutsche Grammophon) with the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia Orchestra conducted by Myung-Whun Chung and L?Olimpiade by Vivaldi at the Festival of Beaune with Rinaldo Alessandrini (recorded for Naive).

A guest of the Teatro alla Scala (Un giorno di regno), of the Salzburg Festival (Don Carlo, conducted by Lorin Maazel) and of the Glyndebourne Touring Opera (Schaunard in La Bohème), Riccardo Novaro enjoys a huge concert activity in Italy and abroad: he took part in concerts at the Teatro Regio di Parma with the Parma Opera Ensemble and at the Primavera Concertistica, and in a recital at the St. James Square with Vincenzo Scalera and at Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern of Schwerin.

Riccardo Novaro gained great success with his recent role debuts of Dottor Malatesta in Don Pasquale at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, of Conte Robinson in Il matrimonio segreto at the Teatro Regio di Torino and of Belcore in L'elisir d'amore in Savona and Alessandria. He just returned to the Théâtre Champs-Elysèes de Paris for Opera seria.
