One of today's rare and authentic contraltos, Sara Mingardo, has become a highly sought-after performer for both the concert and operatic stage in wide range of repertory.

A regular guest of some of the most prestigious Italian theatrical institutions (Teatro Comunale di Firenze, Teatro La Fenice di Venezia, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, Teatro Regio di Torino, Teatro Verdi di Trieste, Teatro Comunale di Ferrara, Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, Teatro Massimo di Palermo, Arena di Verona, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia di Roma), she also maintains an active schedule of performances on the world?s great stages, such as the Opéra de Montecarlo, Opéra de Lausanne, Gran Teatre de Liceu in Barcelona, Théâtre des Champs Elysées de Paris, Théâtre Royal de La Monnaie in Brussels, Opéra de Montpellier, Teatro Real and Teatro Nacional de La Zarzuela in Madrid, Carnegie Hall in New York, Academia Montis Regalis, and in the festivals of Salzburg, Martina Franca, Montreux-Vevey, Aix en Provence, Bregenz, Beaune, Schwetzingen, Montpellier, Dresden and Santa Fe.

Verdi di Milano, «Concerto Italiano» Ensemble.

Her operatic repertory includes the main works by Gluck (Orfeo ed Euridice, Le cinesi), Monteverdi (L'incoronazione di Poppea, L'Orfeo), Händel (Rinaldo, Giulio Cesare, Il trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno, Aci, Galatea e Polifemo, Orlando, Tamerlano), Vivaldi (Fornace, Juditha triumphans), Rossini (Il barbiere di Siviglia, La pietra del paragone, Ermione, Demetrio e Polibio) and Verdi (Rigoletto, Falstaff, Otello), as well as Das Paradis und die Peri, La straniera, Moses und Aaron, Elias, Les Troyens, Gianni Schicchi, Un segreto di importanza, Anna Bolena, Béatrice et Bénédict, Roméo et Juliette, Orione, A Midsummer Night?s Dream, The Rape of Lucretia, Le Martyre de Saint-Sébastien and Pulcinella. Sara Mingardo's extensive concert credits include Mahler's Second Symphony, Brahms's Rhapsodie op. 53, Bach's St Matthew Passion and Cantatas, Stabat Mater and Petite Messe Solennelle by Rossini, Beethoven's Missa Solemnis, Mozart's and Fux's Requiem, Händel's Messiah, Stabat Mater by Pergolesi and Dvorak, Lauda per la Natività del Signore by Respighi and Vivaldi's Magnificat.

Highlights of her future engagements include Les Troyens (Anna) at the Théâtre du Châtelet de Paris, in London and Birmingham with the London Symphony Orchestra, Orfeo ed Euridice by Gluck in Nantes, and several concerts and recitals throughout the world.

Sara Mingardo's discography includes the title role of Händel's Riccardo I conducted by Christophe Rousset with Decca («...a complete success...great vocal dexterity and strength...a singer to watch out for...», Gramophone, November 1996), a collection of Vivaldi's Cantatas, as well his Gloria, Magnificat and Stabat Mater, Pergolesi's Stabat Mater with Rinaldo Alessandrini for Opus 111, Farnace with Jordi Savall for Aliavox, Bach's Cantatas for Archiv Produktion, Falstaff (Quickly) and a selection of Bach's Cantatas with John Eliot Gardiner (Philips), Mozart's Requiem on the Deutsche Grammophon label, Riccardo Primo for L'Oiseau Lyre. Sara Mingardo has just been the recipient of the prestigious Grammy Award for the recording of Les Troyens by Berlioz with Colin Davis and the London Symphony Orchestra, best opera and best classic recording of 2001.

Sara Mingardo was born in Venice and studied at the «Benedetto Marcello» Conservatory with Paolo Ghitti and completed her studies with scholarship from the Accademia Chigiana of Siena. After winning various national and international vocal competitions, in 1987 she won the singing competition of Avezzano performing as Fidalma in Il matrimonio segreto.
