Francesco Piccoli sang with success in the world's most famous opera and concert houses such as the Teatro alla Scala, the Royal Opera House-Covent Garden in London, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, the Teatro La Fenice di Venezia, the Grand Théâtre in Geneva, the Teatro Massimo Bellini di Catania, the Arena di Verona, the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia di Roma, as well as with the Bayerischer Rundunkorchester, the Ravenna Festival and the Rossini Opera Festival.

He collaborated with such distinguished conductors as Riccardo Chailly, Colin Davis, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Riccardo Muti, Daniel Oren, Antonio Pappano, Georg Solti and Christian Thielemann.

At the opening of 1999/2000 season he successfully debuted in The Rake's Progress at the Teatro Regio di Torino and subsequently sang in I pagliacci at the Teatro Massimo Bellini di Catania, in Les Dialogues des Carmélites in Cagliari, in Gianni Schicchi at the Teatro Vittorio Emanuele in Messina and at the Teatro Donizetti di Bergamo, in Turandot (Pang) at the Teatro Comunale di Firenze, in La bella Elena under the baton of Alain Guingal at the Teatro Verdi di Trieste.

During 2000/2001 he sang Die Entführung aus dem Serail (Pedrillo) at the Grand Théâtre de Genève, Mosé in Egitto (Aronne) and L'Amico Fritz (Fritz) in Verona, Capriccio (Italian Tenor) in Paris and Macbeth (Macduff) in Modena, Piacenza and Ferrara. He also took part in a tour of the Teatro Comunale di Firenze to Japan, as Alfredo (La traviata) and Pang in Turandot, and in a new production of Otello at the Teatro Verdi di Trieste. Francesco Piccoli's 2001/2 season was marked by the successful debuts at the Wiener Staatsoper, at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin and at Japan Opera Foundation, Tokyo, as Alfredo Germont in La traviata, as well as by the Japan tour of the Teatro Comunale di Bologna in I Puritani. He also sang in I Lombardi alla prima crociata in Cremona, Como, Brescia, Pavia and Bergamo, Norma in Munich with the Münchner Rundfunkorchester, I pagliacci in Verona, Manon Lescaut (Edmondo) at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna. He opened the current season debuting in Assassinio nella cattedrale at the Teatro Verdi di Trieste.

Among remarkable engagements of his brilliant career are also La Bohème (Rodolfo; Glyndebourne, 1995), Gianni Schicchi (Rinuccio; Bologna, 1993; Brussels, Turin, 1995; Milan, 1996; Catania, 1997), La traviata (Alfredo; Trieste, Köln, 1994; Turin, 1999), Nabucco (Ismaele; Turin, 1997); Madama Butterfly (Pinkerton; Turin, 1996), L?amico Fritz (title role; Catania, 1999), La favorita (Don Gaspar; Munich, 1999), Turandot (Pang; Maggio Musicale Fiorentino tour to China, under the baton of Zubin Mehta, 1998) .

His vast repertoire also includes titles such as Otello, Falstaff, Les troyens, I pagliacci, Die Fledermaus, Fidelio, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Die Entführung aus dem Serail and Barbe-Bleue.

Francesco Piccoli is very active on the concert side, having performed in Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle and several cantatas, Mozart's Requiem and Mass K 427.

Highlights of his future engagements includes Otello (Cassio) and Idomeneo at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, and I Capuleti e i Montecchi (Tebaldo) at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma.

His discography includes Rossini's Il turco in Italia (Albazar) and Cantata per Pio IX with Riccardo Chailly for Decca and La favorite (next release) for BMG.

Born in Verona, Francesco Piccoli made his debut in 1986 at the Teatro Sociale di Rovigo as Beppe in Donizetti's Rita. In 1987 he finished his studies at the Conservatory of his city with Rina Malatrasi.
