After his debuts at the Teatro Coccia di Novara and in some of the most important theatres of Northern Italy as Rabbino David in L'amico Fritz and as Belcore in L'elisir d'amore (1994), Franco Vassallo has quickly won recognition across the world performing with success on the greatest stages in Italy and abroad.

Franco Vassallo has recently made his successful debuts at the Wiener Staatsoper, singing the role of Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor, at the Mannheim National Theater and Philadelphia Opera Company with La Traviata, and at the Opernhaus in Zurich in Don Carlo (Rodrigo). He sang his first Conte di Luna in Il Trovatore at the Teatro Massimo Bellini di Catania, a role he has subsequently revisited at the Teatro Regio di Parma. In recent seasons, he also gained enthusiastic approvals with his performances of Giovanna D'Arco at the Festival de Saint-Denis and at the Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova, Il barbiere di Siviglia (Figaro) at the Teatro alla Scala, Un ballo in maschera in Cremona, Como, Brescia and Pavia, I vespri siciliani in Bilbao, and Lucia di Lammermoor and Ernani at the Teatro di San Carlo di Napoli, where he is presently engaged in Madama Butterfly.

He has also recently returned to the Teatro Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Manon Lescaut, debuted in the title-role of Macbeth in Jesi and Fermo, and performed in L'elisir d'amore at the Teatro La Fenice di Venezia.

The preceding seasons' highlights include successful performances of Il barbiere di Siviglia (Figaro; Teatro del Casino di Sanremo, Teatro Rendano di Cosenza, Palm Beach, Teatro Regio di Parma, Teatro Regio di Torino, Teatro Comunale di Firenze), La traviata (Germont; Festival of Skopje), Rigoletto (Rigoletto; Lugano), Andrea Chénier (Gérard; with Bartoletti at the Festival Giordano di Baveno), L?elisir d'amore (Belcore; Teatro Donizetti di Bergamo), Madama Butterfly (Sharpless; Arena di Verona opposite Raina Kabaivanska, 1997, Castello Sforzesco di Milano and Piazza della Pilotta di Parma coproduction of the Teatro alla Scala, the Teatro Regio and the Orchesta Toscanini of Parma), Manon Lescaut (Lescaut; Teatro Grande di Brescia, Ponchielli di Cremona, Municipale di Piacenza and Comunale di Modena, Teatro Chiabrera di Savona), La Bohème (Marcello; Udine, Savona, Palm Beach, Teatro Verdi di Trieste), Don Carlo (Rodrigo; Teatro di Palm Beach under the baton of Guadagno, Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova), Aida (Amonasro; Teatro dell'Opera del Cairo), Attila (Ezio; Teatro Verdi di Sassari, Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova, Greek National Opera of Athens), Otello (Jago; Festival di San Gimignano).

In 1997 he made important debuts at the PalaFenice of Venice, singing his first Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor and Fabrizio in La gazza ladra. In the same season he was the winner of the International Competion of Budapest - Arena di Verona, which gave him the chance to debut the role of Ford in Falstaff, sharing the stage of the Teatro Filarmonico di Verona with Renato Bruson.

Highlights of Franco Vassallo's future engagements include Il barbiere di Siviglia (Figaro) and La traviata at the Wiener Staatsoper, Madama Butterfly, Faust and La Bohème at the Teatro di San Carlo di Napoli, Don Carlo at Philadelphia Opera Company, Les pécheurs de perles at the A.B.A.O.-O.L.B.E. Theatre in Bilbao, I Puritani (Sir Riccardo Forth) and La traviata (Giorgio Germont) at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, Axur re d'Ormus (Axur) at the Opernhaus in Zurich, Lucia di Lammermoor at Los Angeles Opera and in Zurich.

Born in Milan in 1969, Franco Vassallo studied singing with Carlo Meliciani. In January 1994 he was the winner of the AS.LI.CO. International Competition of Milan.
