Born in Matera in 1965, Gianvito Ribba studied singing under the guidance of R. Merolla and W. Ferrari, graduating at the Egidio R. Duni Conservatory of Matera.

He has subsequently attended several Master classes with Claudio Desderi, Nicola Ghiusulev, Gustav Kuhn, Rolando Panerai, Katia Ricciarelli, Paride Venturi; among them, it is worth mentioning the specialising courses at the Accademia Fiesolana (Monteverdi project), Accademia Lirica Internazionale, Accademia di Montegridolfo, the Operastudio (Teatro dell'Opera di Roma) and the Master class Il bel canto italiano of the Teatro Verdi di Salerno.

His brilliant concert activity started in 1991 in Matera, where he made his debut in Mozart's Krönungsmesse K. 317. Gianvito Ribba has then appeared in Naples, Salerno and Benevento in Rossini's Stabat Mater and, more recently, has sung in Beethoven's Ninth Symphony in Lecce, Galatina and Perugia.

First prize winner at the International Competition Zonta in Naples, he was invited by the Teatro di San Carlo to perform in Gounod's Messe solennelle a Sainte Cécile and Puccini's Messa di Gloria (1994), Ferrero's La figlia del Mago (1995) and Bach's Magnificat.

Gianvito Ribba made his operatic debut at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in 1992, singing in La forza del destino under the baton of Zubin Mehta. Performances of Monteverdi's Orfeo (Caronte) at the Teatro Verdi di Pisa (led by Solci), Les contes d?Hoffmann (Crespell) at the Ente Concerti ?M. Lisa De Carolis' in Sassari (conducted by Bareza) and at the Teatro Comunale di Treviso, under the baton of Peter Maag, have followed. He has subsequently taken part in a As.Li.Co. tour of Don Giovanni (Commendatore) to Köln, Vichy and to several Italian theatres (Pisa, Lucca, Como, Mantova, Trapani, Vigevano, Brescia, Cremona), led by Corrado Rovaris and staged by Daniele Abbado.

In 1999 Gianvito Ribba made his debut in Beethoven's Fidelio (Rocco) at Goethe Institut in Naples and in Simon Boccanegra (Fiesco) in the theatres of Pisa, Lucca, Ravenna and Jesi (Allemandi, conductor; Xavier, director), and sang his first Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte in Livorno, Ravenna, Pisa (led by Bellugi, staged by Kemp). During the same season he travelled to Bellinzona to perform the role of Don Basilio in Il barbiere di Siviglia (under the baton of Claudio Desderi and with the staging of Daniele Abbado), a role subsequently revisited in Malta.

2000 brought him to Pisa to revisit the role of Rocco in Fidelio under the baton of Bellugi, to Ravenna and Busseto as Wurm in Luisa Miller, led by Gandolfi/del Frate and directed by Ambrosini, and again to Busseto in the role of Sparafucile in Rigoletto (De Bernart, conductor; Van Hoecke, stage director).

During the 2001/2 season Gianvito Ribba has sung as Wurm in Como, Piacenza, Pavia, Cremona, Brescia (conducted by Roberto Tolomelli and staged by Giovanni Agostinucci) and, subsequently, in Busseto; he took part in a Teatro Pergolesi di Jesi production of Rigoletto at the Teatro dell'Aquila di Fermo, and in a As.Li.Co. tour to Pavia, Como, Cremona, Vigevano, Brescia and Mantova of Madama Butterfly (Zio Bonzo). After the appearance as Re in Aida in Trapani (Allemandi, conductor), he has recently debuted at the Torre del Lago Festival in Tosca (Angelotti), under the baton of Licata, and premièred the role of Orbazzano in Tancredi in Piacenza, Modena, Ferrara and Reggio Emilia.

Forthcoming engagements include, among others, the performance in the role of Commendatore in Don Giovanni in the theatres of Trento, Bolzano, Rovigo and Cosenza.
