A native of Switzerland, Franziska Hirzel has performed on many European stages as well as at the Salzburg Festival, Holland Festival, Flanders Festival, Beethoven International Festival in Bonn, Prague Autumn Festival, the Easter Festivals in Brno and Bratislava and Rheingau Music Festival. Her extensive concert and opera repertoire ranges from Rameau to contemporary composers. Franziska Hirzel’s engagement as Eurydice with Pina Bausch in a production of Gluck’s Orpheus and Eurydice took her to the Opéra Garnier in Paris and to the Teatro Carlo Fenice in Genova. The French first performance of Manfred Gurlitt’s Wozzek, in which she played the part of Marie, was awarded the Grand Prix de la Critique. She also sang this role in the first Italian production, at the Teatro Regio in Turin.

Franziska Hirzel has performed on a number of CD productions, including a recording of Schönberg’s Moses und Aron with the Concertgebouw Orkest under Pierre Boulez, a release of Krenek’s Karl V on the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of the composer’s birth in cooperation with the Beethoven International Festival in Bonn and Krysztof Penderecki’s Passio secundum Lucam with the Beethoven Orchester Bonn under Marc Soustrot. Most recently she has recorded Britten’s “Illuminations” under Roman Kofman with the Kiev Chamber Orchestra. In a new recording of Liszt’s oratorio Christus she sang the soprano part. Franziska Hirzel regularly worked with ensembles Opera Nova in Zürich and Ebony Band in Amsterdam singing music of our time from the time of Schönberg onwards.

Most recent roles include Chrysothemis in Elektra, Elvira (Don Giovanni)the German production of the Swedish Opera Der Wolf kommt, Prokoffiev’s The Love for Three Oranges (Fata Morgana) and Beethoven S9 in Beijing and for a film of the work at the International Beethovenfest in Bonn and Mahler S4 in Poznan, Debut in London at Chelsea Festival with Mozart Concert-Arias
