From season 2000/2001 Giordano Bellincampi took up his new position as Chief Conductor of the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra. Since January 1997 he has been the orchestras principal guest conductor. In period 1997 2000 he was also Chief Conductor of the Athelas Sinfonietta Copenhagen, the leading avantgarde ensemble in Danish music life, which took over the position as State Ensemble of Denmark from January 2000.

Giordano Bellincampi was born in Rome in 1965, but has lived in Denmark since 1976. He is educated at The Royal Danish Music Academy in Copenhagen in bass trombone and in conducting with Jorma Panula. He has had an active career as orchestra musician in among other orchestras the Royal Danish Orchestra, Copenhagen. In August 1994 Giordano Bellincampi made his debut as a conductor with the Odense Symphony Orchestra. In the period afterwards Giordano Bellincampi has been a regular guest with all the orchestras in Denmark. Abroad he has conducted orchestras such as Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra and Malmö Symphony Orchestra, The Norwegian Radio Symphony, Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Lahti Symphony Orchestra and St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra. In April 2001 he made a successful debut with I Pomeriggi Musicali in Milan.

In February 1997 he made his debut as an opera conductor at The Danish National Opera in Aarhus in Léhars Der Graf von Luxembourg, and was immediately reinvited to conduct the Magic Flute in spring 1998, followed by Carmen in spring 1999 and Don Giovanni in autumn 1999. In 2001 he will be doing Tosca and in 2002 Madame Butterfly at The Danish National Opera in Aarhus. At the Royal Opera in Copenhagen he is also a sought after conductor. He made his debut with La Bohème in spring 2000 and La Traviata in May/June 2001 and in 2002 he will be doing a new production of Manon Lescaut at the Royal Opera in Copenhagen. Summer 1999 he conducted I Pagliacci at Malmö Music Theatre, and he has also conducted Rigoletto and excerpts of Macbeth in concert performances with the Danish Radio Sinfonietta in Copenhagen.

Giordano Bellincampi has been awarded Gladsaxe Music Prize (February 98), Franco-Prize (March 98) because of his outstanding talent and the great impact he has made on Danish music life, in August 98 the award of The Federation of Danish Music Critics, and in January 2000 Poul and Sylvia Schierbecks Award.@
