| The talented Chinese conductor En Shao came to the West in 1988. He soon rose to international attention by winning the prestigious Hungarian Television International Conductor's Competition. His flourishing career has already included engagements with, in Europe, the London and Bornemouth Symphonies, the Royal Philharmonic, the Berlin Symphony, the Helsinki, Oslo, Czech and Royal Liverpool Philharmonics, as well as the BBC Orchestras; in North America, the Toronto, Colorado, and Vancouver Symphonies; and in Australia annual tours with the ABC Orchestras.\n\nFormerly Principal Conductor of the Ulster Orchestra, En Shao is currently Principal Guest Conductor of the Euskadi Orchestra in Spain. In recognition of his special relationship with Sir Charles Groves, who helped bring him to the West, En Shao also became Music Director of the Guildford Philharmonic in 1995. En Shao is particularly known for his interpretations of the large scale twentieth century repetoire. |
