Elizabeth Rae Magnuson studied with Norman Gulbrandsen at De Paul University in Chicago, Illinois. After winning the Chicago Bel Conto competition,she moved to Europe to begin the International Opera Studio in Zurich. Within the first month, she made her stage debut jmuping in at the last moment as the" Queen of the Night" at the Opera House of Zurich with great sucsess. That gave way to numerous engagements performing the role in houses such as The Deutsche Oper, Staatsoper unter den Linden, Leipzig, Hamburg Staats Oper and Stutgart.(as of 2000 she no longer sings this role).

In 1994/1995 Elizabeth became a member of the ensemble of the Zurich Opera House. There, she made her debut under Nikolaus Harnoncourt as "Marzelline" in Fidelio. Other roles with N. Harnoncourt followed such as, "Barbarina" in The Marrige of Figaro, "Oberto" in Alcina, which was also performed at the Vienna Festwoche in 1997, "Lucio Cinna" in Lucio Silla,and as "Donna Anna" in Don Giovanni.

Under the direction of Adam Fischer she debuted as "Genio" in L'anima del filosofo, which the critics praised, "A Star in born!", "Clarice" in Il Mondo della Luna, and as "Konstanze" in The Abduction from the Seraglio; which she has also performed with William Christie and Les Arst Florissants in Paris. At the Paris Salle Pleyel, she sang under Wolfgang Sawalish as "Marzelline" in Fidelio.

Other roles include "Pamina", "Sifare" in Mitridate, "Gretel", "Lauretta", "Frau Fluth" from Lustige Weiber, "Marzelline" from Paers Leonora and "Lisa" from La Sonnambula. As the role of "Berta" in The Barber of Seville under Nello Santi a DVD of the production has been made.

Recently, Elizabeth has debuted in the Ring Cycle as "Woglinda" in both Rheingold and Gotterdammerung in a Bob Wilson production under the direction of Franz Welser-Most. She has also performed with Welser-Most the role of "Hildegarde" in Johan Strauss's Simplicius, which was recorded to CD under EMI recordings. In the 2002-2003 season she will be working again with Welser-Most taking the role of "Juliette" in Die Tote Stadt by Korngold, which will also be recorded under EMI recordings.@
