Daniele Callegari, just appointed chief-conductor of the Koninklijk Filharmonisch Orkest van Vlaanderen (Royal Flanders Philharmonic Orchestra), was born in Milan and made his musical studies at the Conservatory of his native city.

A winner of the Teatro alla Scala International Competition, in 1982 he entered as a member of La Scala Orchestra. After several important debuts, since 1989 he has successfully appeared as a conductor in the most important musical institutions around the world. Between 1998 and 2000 he has worked as Principal Conductor at the prestigious Wexford Opera Festival.

Daniele Callegari is a regular guest of such important concert and theatrical institutions as the Bayerische Staatsoper, Berlin Deutsche Oper, Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Carlo Felice di Genova, Comunale di Bologna, Dresden Musik Festspiel, Frankfurt Oper, Gurzenich Fil. Orchester, Liceu of Barcelona, Macerata Opera, Massimo di Palermo, Massimo Bellini di Catania, M.D.R Orchester, Muncher Rundfunk Orchester, National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, New Japan Foundation, Opéra Marseille, Orchestra Regionale della Toscana, Orquestra Sinfonica de Madrid, Orchestra A. Toscanini, Philarmonique de Montecarlo, Regio di Parma, Sao Carlos in Lisbon, Théatre de La Monnaie in Brussels, Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, Teatro Verdi di Trieste, Orchestra Sinfonica della Rai.

Recently, he was on the podium of La Monnaie as the conductor of the world première of Oedipe sur la route by Pierre Bartholomée and of La Bohème. At Liceu of Barcelona, he gained great approvals conducting a new production of Norma. Daniele Callegari has also just debuted on the podium of the Staatsoper unter den Linden in Berlin conducting a new production of L'elisir d'amore.

Highlights of his future engagements include La Bohème (Dresden Semperoper), a new production of L'elisir d'amore (Liceu of Barcelona), Le Roi Arthus (La Monnaie), Les contes d'Hoffmann (Teatro Regio di Parma), Rigoletto (Amsterdam, Nederlandse Opera), La traviata (Macerata Opera). He will also be heard in numerous concerts with the Royal Flanders Philharmonic Orchestra and with the Orchestra Haydn di Bolzano.

Daniele Callegari's discography includes Alice by Testoni and Wolf-Ferrari's I quatro Rusteghi for Agorà, La traviata for Bongiovanni, La Gioconda by Ponchielli, Mascagni's Messa di Gloria, Stabat Mater by Pergolesi, Il trovatore and Oberto conte di San Bonifacio and a CD dedicated to concert arias by Mozart for Fonè.
