 Paul studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Rudolf Piernay where roles included Chub Cherevichky, Superintendent Budd Albert Herring, Pasquale The Aspern Papers, Don Basilio Barber of Seville, Der Lautsprecher Der Kaiser von Atlantis and The Tsar's Equerry The Tsar Has his Photograph Taken. There then followed a year at the National Opera Studio sponsored by The Richard Lewis Award (Glyndebourne), The Sybil Tutton Trust and The John Wates Trust.

Paul sang Colline La Boheme, Speaker and 2nd Armed Man Magic Flute and understudied Sarastro Magic Flute for British Youth Opera. For Glyndebourne he has understudied Trulove The Rake’s Progress, Publio La Clemenza di Tito, Colline La Boheme, Sergeant of Archers and Innkeeper in Manon Lescaut. Other roles include Dr Bartolo Figaro for Opera Box, The Sergeant The Pirates of Penzance for The D'Oyly Carte Opera Company in the West End, Sarastro Die Zauberflöte for Kentish Opera, and The King Aida for Raymond Gubbay and The Royal Albert Hall.

Concert repertoire includes Bach Passions, Tippett's A Child of Our Time, Mozart, Verdi and Bruckner Requiems, Messiah, Schubert Masses in G and E flat, Gounod Messe Solennelle and St Cecilia Mass, Stainer The Crucifixion, Purcell Come Ye Sons of Art, Rossini Stabat Mater, Puccini Messa di Gloria, Haydn Nelson Mass and The Creation, and Mozart C Minor Mass.

Recent roles include Matthew The Last Supper at Royal Festival Hall, Glyndebourne Festival Opera and Staatsoper Berlin, Badger and Parson Cunning Little Vixen with Opera Theatre Company and English Touring Opera, Zuniga Carmen, Betto Gianni Schicchi Sparafucile and Colline throughout France with Diva Opera, Gremin with Scottish Opera Go Round, Loudspeaker The Emperor of Atlantis with OTC, Wurm Luisa Miller at Opera Holland Park, Zuniga (David McVicar’s production of Carmen in Tenerife) and Dean Babette’s Feast in the Linbury Theatre, Covent Garden.

Recent engagements include The Birds (The Opera Group and I Fagiolini), Die Fiesque Maria di Rohan and Mr. Gobineau The Medium at Wexford, Ceprano Rigoletto (ENO) and Clerk May Night at Garsington. Plans include Sparafucile Rigoletto at Opera Holland Park, Hobson Peter Grimes and Les Noces at Opera North
