Bass-baritone Assaf Levitin, reviewed by Orpheus Magazine as "both vocally and dramatically touching", was a soloist at the Dortmund Opera Theater, Germany, where his roles include Figaro in Mozart´s Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Alfonso in Mozart's Cosi fan Tutte, Colline in Puccini´s La Bohéme, Gremin in Tshaikovsky´s Eugene Onegin, Masetto in Mozart´s Don Giovanni, and more. Since August 2005, he decided to develop his carrer as a freelance singer, residing in Berlin.

In demand also as Oratorio and concert singer, he was recently invited to perform Mendelssohn's Paulus with the Israeli Chamber Orchestra, Mozart's Requiem and Haydn's Theresienmesse with the Dortmund Philharmonic, and Handel's Judas Maccabaeus with the Israeli Kibbutz Orchestra. He also sang Handel's Messiah, Bach's St. Matthews Passion, Christmas Oratorio and cantatas, Puccini's Missa di Gloria, and Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle with various orchestras in Europe and Israel.

Naturally endowed with a wide vocal range and a perfect pitch, Mr. Levitin is an avid interpreter of modern and contemporary music. He performed Honneger's Danses des Morts in the Berlin Philharmonie, Aribert Reimann´s Entsorgt in Hanover's Expo World Exhibition and Berlin's Hebbel Theater, and Schoenberg's Ode to Napoleon Bonaparte in Schoenberg Centre in Vienna. He sang the title role in John Casken´s Golem at Neue Opernbuehne, Berlin and took part in World Music Days, Luxemburg.

A native of Israel, Mr. Levitin devotes much of his work to Hebrew and Jewish music. Lately, a CD of his singing of Jewish chants was released under the label of Schott Mainz. His world-premiere recording of Israeli Art Songs by composer Noa Blass is about to be published in 2005. In 2004, his concert program of Israeli traditional songs in new musical arrangements has taken him on a tour around Germany.

Assaf Levitin began his studies at the Tel Aviv Academy of Music under the guidance of Agnes Massini. He received a diploma from the Saarland Academy of Music, Germany, where he studied with Prof. Yaron Windmueller, and continued for a Master´s degree in concert singing. Subsequently, he joined the International Opera Studio at the Zurich Opera House to complete his professional and stage training. In the last 2 years he has been working under the guidance of Karoly Szilagyi.
During his studies, he received various scholarships and won prizes at the Vera Rozsa-Nordell and the Walter Gieseking competitions. In the Paula Solomon-Lindberg Lied competition he has reached the finals.
