Recipient of the 1993 European Prize for Conducting, the young Viennes-born conductor, Manfred Honeck started his career in 1987/98 as Assistant to Claudio Abbado in the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and was also appointed Principal Conductor of Vienna's Jeunesse Orchestra. He is regularly invited to the NDR Hannover and the Radio Symphony Orchestras of Berlin, Leipzig, Munich, Frankfurt Köln, Saarbrücken and Stuttgart.\n\nManfred Honeck has held the position of Kapellmeister at the Zurich Opera since 1991/92 and in January 1997 he became Music Director at the Norwegian National Opera. In addition he is also one of three conductors to share the Music Directorship of the MDR Orchestra Leipzig.\n\nIn 1994 he made his debut with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and his US debut with the Houstan Symphony. 1995 saw his debuts with both the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the orchestra he returns to work with again in the 1997/98 season. Recent successes have also included concerts with Dresden Staatskapelle, Oslo Philharmonic, Danish Radio Symphony and Royal Danish Orchestras.
