American bass-baritone David Pittsinger has enjoyed a meteoric rise in the international world of opera. After beginning his career with the San Francisco Opera, Mr. Pittsinger made his European debut as the 'Count' in Schreker's 'Der ferne Klang' at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels and was subsequently reengaged to sing and record 'Fiesco ' in 'Simon Boccanegra' oposite Jose Van Dam. In 1991, he was engaged to sing title roles in Mozart's 'Le nozze di Figaro' and 'Don Giovanni' for the Mozart Bicentennial in Nice. Since then he has appeared at the Paris Opera, L'Opéra de Nice, L'Opéra Comique in Paris, the Salzburger, Wiener and Dresdner Festspiele, Théâtre Champs Elysées, le Grand Théâtre de Genève, Opéra de Lausanne, and the Teatro Municipal de Santiago, among others.\n Orchestral engagements have included Beethoven's 'Missa Solemnis' with I Solisti Veneti and Rossini's 'Petite Messe Solennelle' with the Gulbenkian Orchestra in Lisbon, both under the direction of Claudio Scimone, Berlioz's 'Romeo et Juttliee' with L'Orchestre de Lille under Mark Elder,'The rake's progress' with the Westdeutscher Rundfunk, 'L'Enfance du Christ' with John Nelson and the National Orchestra Radio France. \nThe 1997-98 season started with Mr. Pittsinger's debut at L'Opera de Montreal. Upcoming \n\nengagements include recording the role of 'Baculus' in 'Der Wildschütz' by Lortzing for BMG and a recording of Mozart concert works, both with the Bayerische Rundfunk. Mr. Pittsinger will also return to Lausanne as 'Nick Shadow' in a new production of 'The rake's progress', to the Paris Opera, repeating his role in 'La Clemenza di Tito', and to the Semperoper in Dresden as 'Basilio' in 'Il Barbiere di Siviglia'.\nMr. Pittsinger can be heard on the Virigin Classics recording of Charysle Floyd's 'Susannah' and in 'La Calisto' by Cavalli on the Harmonia Mundi label.
