| Graduated from the Stockholm Opera School in 1987. After engagements at Folkoperan in Stockholm, Vadstenaakademien and Norrlandsoperan she made her debut with the Royal Opera in Stockholm as Madame Butterfly. Her first engagements abroad brought her to Oslo (Donna Anna) and Brussels (Fiordiligi) and to Hamburg (Fiordiligi), Nice (Eva), Paris (Contessa in Figaro), Lisboa, Amsterdam, Aix-en-Provence, Vienna, Salzburg, Firenze, Berlin, Chicago Lyric Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Tokyo, Osaka and the Glyndebourne Festival Opera. The repertory includes Contessa ('Figaro'), Fiordiligi ('Cosi'), Donna Anna ('Don Giovanni'), Elettra ('Idomeneo'), Pamina ('Zauberflöte'), Vitellia ('Clemenza di Tito'), Iphigénie ('Aulide & Tauride' by Gluck), Tatiana ('Onegin'), Butterfly, Marguérite ('Faust' by Gounod and Spohr), Aida, Desdemona ('Otello'), Alice Ford ('Falstaff'), Agathe ('Freischütz'), Eva ('Meistersinger') etc. The concert repertory is wide including for example Strauss 'Vier letzte Lieder', Wagner 'Wesendonklieder', sacred music like Bach Mass in B minor, Haydn Creation, Mozart Mass in C minor and Requiem Mass, Brahms 'Ein deutsches Requiem', Verdi Requiem, Mahler Symphonies, Beethoven 9 and Missa Solemnis. Hillevi Martinpelto regularely appears with conductors like Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Sir Simon Rattle, Sir Colin Davis, René Jacobs, Zubin Mehta, Carlos Maria Giulini, Esa Pekka Salonen, Heinz Wallberg and Herbert Blomstedt. Several recordings with Gardiner (Idomeneo, Figaro, Leonore, Falstaff), Rattle ('Cosi') and other conductors for DG/Archiv and other companies as well as recordings of Swedish operas and other vocal works and a lieder recording (cf Martinpelto Selected Discography). Ms Martinpelto has taken part in several productions at the Dottingholm Court Theatre. The last seasons have included 'Elettra'/Idomeneo at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and in Lausanne, Leonore (Beethoven) and Falstaff (Verdi), with Maestro Gardiner in Italy, France, Holland, Germany, New York, London (Royal Albert Hall Proms), concerts with Simon Rattle, Colin Davis, Jeffrey Tate, Roger Norrington, Aida at The Royal Opera Stockholm, Eva at Deutsche Oper Berlin, Agathe in Copenhagen and Cologne, Berlin and Mannheim, Contessa in 'Figaro' at La Scala with Riccardo Muti, Vitellia in 'La Clemenza di Tito' (new prod.), Donna Anna in Munich and at the Vienna State Opera. The next plans include Elisabetta ('Don Carlo' - new prod.) at the Royal Opera Stockholm, 'Falstaff'/Alice with Gardiner in Paris, Donna Anna and Vitellia in Munich, Elsa in 'Lohengrin' etc. as well as many concerts in Berlin, Cologne, New York, Salzburg, Vienna, London (2 Proms), Cleveland etc. |
