Bartoletti Bruno
direttore d'orchestra

Born in Sesto Fiorentino, Bruno Bartoletti studied music at the Conservatorio 'Luigi Cherubini', Florence. He has conducted in major theatres, festivals and radio-television centres throughout Europe and North America. He has often been invited to take part in seasons at the Teatro Colon, Buenos Aires and Florence's Teatro Comunale, where for many years he was Resident Conductor of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Orchestra, and then Artistic Director between 1985 and 1991. In Florence, he has conducted numerous historic productions, linking his name to the history of the Teatro Comunale and its Festival. Particularly worthy of note are the two versions of Alban Berg's 'Wozzeck', the first in 1964 produced by Virginio Puecher and the second in 1979 by Liliana Cavani; Alban Berg's 'Lulu', Prokofiev's 'Love for the three Oranges' and 'The Flaming Angel', Shostakovich's 'The Nose' and the Italian debuts of Hans Werner's 'King Stag' in May 1976 and Luciano Berio's 'Opera' the following year. He has also acted as 'godfather' to works by major contemporary composers such as Nino Rota's 'Napoli Milionaria' at the Spoleto Festival and Penderecki's 'Paradise Lost' at the Lyric Opera, Chicago, where he has been artistic director since 1964. Bruno Bartoletti's intensive recording career includes 'Un Ballo in Maschera' with Renata Tebaldi and Luciano Pavarotti, 'Manon Lescaut' with Montserat Caballé and Placido Domingo, 'Suor Angelica' with Katia Ricciarelli and Florenza Cossotto, 'La Gioconda' with Montserrat Caballé, Luciano Pavarotti and Nicolai Ghiaurov, and recently a recording of G. Puccini's 'Trittico' for Decca with Mirella Freni playing the lead in the three operas, Leo Nucci / 'Gianni Schicchi' and Juan Pons as Michele in 'Il Tabarro'. In 1987, he was awarded an honorary at Loyala University, Chicago, together with Rita Levi Montalcini and Umberto Eco, while in 1993 he received an honorary degree from the Northwestern University. Currently, he is leading guest conductor of the Orchestra Regionale della Toscana.
