Yuri Ahronovitch was born in Leningrad. He began his violin studies at the age of four. In 1954 he obtained his Conducting Degree in Leningrad Conservatory and immediately began his activity by conducting several orchestras amongst which the Leningrad Philharmonic and the Bolshoi Orchestra. |
After the nominée as Principal Conductor of Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra in 1964, he worked there till his emigration in Israel in 1972. |
Since then, Yuri Ahronovitch has been invited to conduct the major international orchestras, amongst the others the London Symphony Orchestra, the Israel Philharmonic, the Wien Symphonic Orchestra, the Yomiuri Orchestra in Tokyo, the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, La Scala Theatre Orchestra, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and the main French orchestras... |
Principal Conductor from 1975 till 1986 of the Koln Philharmonc Orchestra, and from 1982 till 1987 of the Stokolm Philharmonic Orchestra, in the meanwhile Yuri Ahronovitch worked a lot as opera conductor (Chicago Opera, main Italian theatres, Stockolm Royal Opera, Covent Garden in London, Koln Opera, Munich StaatOper) |
He made recordings above all with the London Symphony, the Stockolm Philharmonic and the Wien Symphonic Orchestra. |
In 1984 Yuri Ahronovitch became member of the Swedish Royal Music Academy; in 1987 he received from the King of Sweden the Royal Ordre Honour; in 1988, in Jerusalem he received the Ettinger Prize for Arts. @In Italy he received the Prize Arca dOro 1991, on initiative of the newspaper La Stampa and Turin University. |
