Elena Zilio made his debut as protagonist in Rossini's Il signor Bruschino at the Festival dei Due Mondi of Spoleto and in the role of Pierotto in Linda di Chamounix at the Teatro alla Scala under the guidance of Gianandrea Gavazzeni, where she was acclaimed by both public and critic.

She has been heard throughout the world in the most prestigious opera houses including the Teatro alla Scala, Teatro La Fenice di Venezia, Teatro Regio di Torino, Teatro Comunale di Firenze, Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, Teatro Massimo di Palermo, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Grand Théâtre in Genève and Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. She also enjoyed successes in several festivals such as the Festival Marais in Paris, Bregenz Festival, Edimburgh Festival, Spoleto Festival, as well as in Dresdner and Wiesbaden Festivals.

She was also the protagonist of several tours in the United States, Canada, Japan, Spain and Russia with the famous ensemble «I Virtuosi di Roma», singing a repertoire of the eighteenth and nineteenth century.

In 1999 she sang Falstaff at the Opéra National de Lyon, The turn of the screw at the Teatro Nacional in Madrid, Barbe-bleue at the Teatro Verdi di Trieste and The Rake's Progress at the Teatro Regio di Torino. 2000 brought her to Florence and on a tour of the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino to the Ruhrfestspiele for L'incoronazione di Poppea, to the Arena di Verona to perform in Il tabarro and to the Oper Frankfurt for Falstaff, a work she will revisit at the Teatro Regio di Torino. She has recently made her debuts at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich and at the Opernhaus in Zurich with Il ritorno di Ulisse in patria, sang Les dialogues des Carmélites at the Teatro Massimo Bellini di Catania, and again Il Tabarro in Barcelona.

Among her future engagements it is worth including Gianni Schicchi at the Opéra National de Paris, Gattopardo and The Rake?s Progress at Teatro Massimo di Palermo, and again Il ritorno di Ulisse in patria in Munich.

Elena Zilio collaborated with the most famous conductors such as Bruno Bartoletti, Gabriele Ferro, Gianandrea Gavazzeni, Carlo Maria Giulini, Riccardo Muti, Georges Prêtre and Mstislav Rostropovich.

Her vast repertoire includes the comic and dramatic mezzo soprano roles in opera and operetta. She sang in Lucrezia Borgia, Die Csárdásfürstin, Cin-Ci-Là, Il paese dei Campanelli, Scugnizza and Eva (Teatro Massimo di Palermo), L'amico Fritz (Teatro Comunale di Modena and Piacenza), Falstaff (Busseto and Macerata), Les contes d'Hoffmann (Teatro Comunale di Firenze, Teatro Regio di Parma, Bilbao, Bonn and Tenerife), Ruggero Leoncavallo's La reginetta delle rose (Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa), Il Biante, ovvero la Laurinda (Lugo), La figlia del reggimento (Teatro Massimo di Palermo, Teatro Sociale di Rovigo, Teatro dell?Opera di Roma), Die Fledermaus (Teatro Massimo di Palermo), La gazza ladra (Messina).

Her discography also includes Pergolesi's Il Flaminio (Giustina) for Fonit Cetra, Puccini's Trittico, Gianni Schicchi and Suor Angelica conducted by Antonio Pappano for Emi.

Born in Bolzano, she studied piano and singing at the «C. Monteverdi» Conservatory in her native town. She continued her studies specialising by the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome and the Accademia Chigiana in Siena.
