| Abbado Roberto | direttore d'orchestra |
Conductor Robert Abbado is in demand internationally for both concert and opera engagements, at New York's Metropolitan Opera and Carnegie Hall, Paris' Opéra Bastille, Amsterdam's Concertgebouw, Milan's La Scala and Tokyo's Suntory Hall. At the age of twentythree Abbado conducted his first opera performance, Simon Boccanegra. Over the next six years, he made his debuts at La Scala, Wiener Staatoper, La Fenice, Zurich Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin and in the opera houses of Florence, Rom and Bologna. His North American concert debut came in 1991, followed by his highly successful debut at the Metropolitan Opera in 1994. Abbado has seen working in Munich since 1989, and in 1991 was appointed Chief Conductor of the Münchner Rundfunkorchester, a post which he relinquishes at the end of the 1997/98 season. During his tenure, Abbado has widened the orchestra's repertoire considerably, concentrating particularly on Stravinsky, Hindemith, Bartok, Debussy, Shostakovich and Prokofiev. Although the Italian opera repertoire forms the principal part of Abbado's work, he also has a special interest in contemporary opera and opera revivals. During the 1997/98 season he retunr to La Scala for a new production of Linda di Chamounix and to Florence's Maggio Musicale for Le Comte Ory. At the Wiener Staatsoper he conducts a new production of I Vespri siciliani and in Paris he conducts Fedora. |
