Kotscherga Anatoli
basso

In the current season 2001/02 Ukrainian bass Anatoli Kotscherga sings Dosifej in the new production of Khovanshchina at the Opéra National de Paris, as well as the part of Boris Ismailov in Lady Macbeth of Mzensk at the Sächsische Staatsoper Dresden and at Gran Teatro del Liceu de Barcelona. On the concert podium, the great voice can be heard in Milano under the baton of Riccardo Chailly, in the Accademia Santa Cecilia Roma under Mstislav Rostropovitch, in Montréal under Charles Dutoit.

Claudio Abbado chose Anatoli Kotscherga to sing the title role of Shostakovich's King Lear, a seldom played work that can be heard in April 2002 with the Berliner Philharmonic Orchestra and will recorded on CD.

Anatoli Kotscherga gave also concerts for the new year 2000/01 with the Berliner Philharmonic Orchestra under Claudio Abbado, continued with Verdi's Falstaff at the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich and at the Salzburger Osterfestspiele, Mussorgsky's Songs and Dances of Death in concert at the Teatro de la Fenice Venezia. Furthermore he had a incredible success with cuts of title role Boris Godunov with the Münchner Philharmoniker under Christoph von Dohnanyi in Munich as well as at the Accademia Santa Cecilia Roma, with Janacek's Glagolitic Mass at the Gewandhaus Leipzig and Songs and Dances of Death with the Orchestre National de Belgique. Furthermore he could be heard as Gremin in Eugene Onegin at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, in Don Carlo and Falstaff at the Salzburger Festspiele. @In fall 2000 he sang the revival of Prokofiev's War and Peace at the Opéra National de Paris, where he already celebrated a great success in the opera's new production in spring 2000. After that he could be heard in concerts at the Victoria Hall Genève (Mussorgsky's Songs and Dances of Death) and in the revival of Shostakovich's Lady Macbeth of Mzensk at the Sächsische Staatsoper Dresden.

As Dosifej in Mussorgsky?s Khovanshchina Anatoli Kotscherga opened the 1998/99 season at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels. After that he sang Banco in Macbeth at the Bayerische Staatsoper München and Grande Inquisitore in Don Carlo at the Teatro de la Maestranza Sevilla. In January/February 1999 Kotscherga could again be heard at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels in a new production of Shostakovich's Lady Macbeth of Mzensk, and in March/April 1999 he sang in the Mazeppa-production at the Teatro alla Scala Milano. In summer 1999 he appeared at the Salzburger Festspiele (Grande Inquisitore in Don Carlo), at the Teatro Sao Carlos Lisboa (Verdi's Messa da Requiem) and at the Carinthischer Sommer (Recital).

The artist has a notable history with the title role in Boris Godunov which seems to be written for him. Anatoli Kotscherga sang Boris at the Salzburger Osterfestspiele, the Salzburger Festspiele, in Japan with the Wiener Staatsoper, at the Teatro La Fenice Venezia, at the Teatro Regio Torino and the Théâtre du Capitole Toulouse, and recorded a CD with the Berliner Philharmonisches Orchester under the baton of Claudio Abbado for SONY Classical. Several other opera CD's with Anatoli Kotscherga have been released by the Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft : Khovanshchina with Claudio Abbado, Mazeppa with Neeme Järvi and Lady Macbeth of Mzensk with Myung Whun Chung and lately in April 2001 Falstaff with Claudio Abbado.

Moreover Anatoli Kotscherga appeared at the Vienna State Opera, the Bregenzer Festspiele, the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Teatro alla Scala Milano, the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, the Opéra de Montpellier, the Teatro de la Maestranza Sevilla, the De Nederlandse Opera Amsterdam and at the San Francisco Opera.

In concerts Anatoli Kotscherga sang e.g. with the Berliner Philharmonisches Orchester under Claudio Abbado (Mussorgsky's Songs and Dances of Death with CD-recording for SONY Classical), with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra under Neeme Järvi (Shostakovich's Symphony N°13 with CD-recording for the Deutsche Grammophon), with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under Zubin Mehta (Mahler's Symphony N°8), with the Camerata Academica Salzburg under Franz Welser-Möst (Shostakovich's Symphony N°14), and he performed Recitals at the Berliner Festwochen, the Wiener Musikverein and the Stefaniensaal Graz.

Anatoli Kotscherga studied at the Tchaikovsky-Conservatory Kiev. At the Opera House Kiev he became one of the leading soloists and improved his repertoire, which in the meanwhile includes all of the most important Bass-roles. In Milano he studied the Italian roles. He started his international career in 1989, when he celebrated an outrageous success in Khovanshchina at the Vienna State Opera under the baton of Claudio Abbado. @
