| Roberto Frontali made his debut in 1986 at the Opera House of Rome, performing with Monserrat Caballé in G. Spontini's 'Agnese of Hohenstaufen'. Subsequently, he has sung in the principal Italian theatres, demonstrating himself as one of the most successful interpreters of 'Bel Canto'. His repertory inlcudes Rossini, especially Figaro in 'Barbiere di Seviglia', several works by Donizetti and Bellini, as well as Verdi's masterpieces 'Don Carlos', 'Traviata', 'Luisa Miller' and 'Falstaff' as Ford. In 1992, Frontali's career became international with his American debut in Philadelphia (Barbiere di Seviglia), and at the MET in New York ('Elisir d'Amore'). He has returned each season to the MET, singing 'Traviata', and Marcello in 'Bohème'. He has also sung at the Staatsoper in Vienna, the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, the San Francisco Opera House, the Liceu in Barcelona, and recently at the Opera Bastille in Paris. In 1993 he sang at La Scala in Bellini's 'Beatrice di Tenda' as Filippo Visconti and as Ford and Malatesta in 'Falstaff' and 'Don Pasquale' conducted by Maestro Ricardo Muti. In 1995, after his performances in Rossini's 'Barbier of Sevilla' conducted by Maestro Claudio Abbado, he was acclaimed as the finest interpreter of Figaro. In 1996 he made his debut in Verdi's 'Il Corsaro', playing Said and his collaboration with Maestro Zubin Metha in a new production of 'Lucia di Lammermoor' at the Maggio Musicale in Florence and Tokyo. In 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2000, he will perform: 'I Puritani', 'Beatrice di Tenda', Barbiere di Seviglia', 'La Favorita', 'Traviata', 'Don Carlos' in London, New York, Milan, Vienna, Los Angeles, Pesaro, Bologna, Rome and Florence. |
