Born in Ferrara, Giorgio Merighi attended the Rossini Music Conservatory in Pesaro and won the «A.Belli» singing competition in Spoleto, where he made his debut in Un ballo in maschera. |
After his debut at the Teatro alla Scala in La Bohème conducted by Sonzogno, Giorgio Merighi embarked on an international career, which have brought him to world's most prestigious stages including Teatro alla Scala, Teatro Massimo di Palermo, Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, Teatro Comunale di Firenze, Arena di Verona, Teatro Regio di Torino, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, Teatro La Fenice in Venezia, Lyric Opera Chicago, Metropolitan Opera in New York, Staatsoper in Berlin, Wiener Staatsoper and Grand Theatre in Geneva. |
He sang with such conductors as Gianadrea Gavazzeni, James Levine, Seiji Ozawa, Giulio Cesare Sonzogno, Antonino Votto. |
His vast repertoire includes such titles as La Bohème, Tosca, La forza del destino, Aida, Il trovatore, Simon Boccanegra, Turandot, Andrea Chénier, Cavalleria rusticana, Manon Lescaut, Macbeth, La fanciulla del West, Francesca da Rimini, Pagliacci, Gioconda, and Adriana Lecouvreur. |
In 1998/9 season he performed in Madame Sans-Gêne at the Teatro Comunale di Modena opposite of Mirella Freni and in Aida and Fedora at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. |
1999/2000 season brought him to the National Theatre of Mannheim for Madama Butterfly, to the Carlo Felice in Genoa for Fedora, to the Teatro Massimo Bellini di Catania for Norma, to Valencia and Sevilla for Turandot and to Bologna for a new production of I pagliacci. Giorgio Merighi has recently sung in Norma at the Teatro Municipal in Santiago, Chile, at the Teatro dell?Opera di Roma and in Buenos Aires, in Tosca on tour in Beijing with the Arena di Verona, in Fedora at the Opernaus in Zurich and in Il tabarro at the Festival of Perelada. During the last Summer he took part in his first Torre del Lago production of Madama Butterfly, singing in the role of Benjamin Franklin Pinkerton. |
