| Annette Elster was born in 1965 near Hannover, Germany. While still a student at the Musikhochschule Würzburg she made operatic and concert debuts in Italy as well as in the United States. After graduation she was awarded a contract with Theater Hagen, where she performed many importang mezzo roles including Carmen, Charlotte ('Werther'), Orpheus, Cenerentola. From 1994-98 she has been engaged by Oper Nürnberg performing mezzo as well as soprano roles such as the composer ('Ariadne') and Kundry ('Parsifal'). She shows affinity for music of the 20th century performing in Operas by Alban Berg, Carl Orff, Luigi Dallapiccola, Wolfgang Rihm, and world-creations by Toshio Hosokawa (Munich-Biennale/Tokio) and Annette Schlünz (Expo 2000). In addition she has performed in operas in Dresden/Semperoper, Staatsoper Berlin, Oper Leipzig, Oper Hannover, Bologna, Palermo, Triest, Dallas. Her oratorio- and symphonic repertoire is extensive: Verdi Requiem, Beethoven Missa solemnis, Mahler 2. Symphonie - in Germany and abroad (Festival Berlin, Köln, Bregenz, Madrid, RAI Roma/Torino, Shizuoka-Festival). Solo-Recitals in Houston/Texas, Schloss Elmau, Opera Frankfurt, Takefu-Festival. Higlights of the upcoming seasons include: Montezuma in Wolfgang Rihm 'Die Eroberung von Mexico' (Opera Frankfurt), Ophelia in Wolfgang Rihm 'Hamletmaschine' (Munich Philharmonics). |
