PHILIPPE ROUILLON , born in Paris, studied at the « Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris », then at the « Ecole dArt Lyrique de lOpéra de Paris ». Subsequently he won the «1er Prix Opéra » and the « Prix du Public » at the international competition of Verviers (1979and the first prize of singing at the Rio de Janeiro Competition (1983), which marks the beginning of his international career. He has been invited to the greatest opera houses : In Wien, he performed Escamillo (Carmen), Golaud (Pelléas et Mélisande), the High Priest of Dagon (Samson et Dalila), Hérode (Hérodiade) and the 4 parts for baritone in les Contes dHoffmann ; in Paris Chorèbe (les Troyens), Ruprecht (LAnge de Feu), Orest (Elektra), Renato (Un Ballo in Maschera), the High Priest of Dagon, The High Priest (Alceste), Thoas (Iphigenie en Tauride) and Le Roi de Trèfle (Amour des 3 oranges); in Amsterdam Ruprecht, the High Priest of Dagon, Gellner (La Wally), Escamillo and Scarpia (Tosca); in Lisbon and Strasbourg Jochanaan (Salome); in Liège Guillaume Tell (in French title-role), Macbeth (title-role), Créon (Oedipus rex), Hérode (Hérodiade), Comte de Saint-Bris (Les Huguenots) and Gunther (Götterdämmerung); in London Mephisto (Damnation de Faust), in Madrid, Utrecht and Varsaw Saint François dAssise Messiaen- (title-role); in Zurich the High Priest of Dagon, Rigoletto and the 4 villains in les Contes dHoffmann; in Tel-Aviv the High Priest of Dagon, Rigoletto, and Mephisto (La Damnation de Faust). In Italy he was heard in the 4 parts for baritone in Les Contes dHoffmann in Milano (La Scala), Napoli and Sassari, and he has sung Scarpia in Catania. He sings frequently in Germany: München (Macbeth); Bonn: Scarpia, Saint François dAssise, the High Priest of Dagon; Köln: Mephisto, Le Roi Arthus, Saint François dAssise; Berlin Staatsoper: The High Priest (Alceste); Berlin Deutsche Oper: Amfortas (Parsifal); Frankfurt: the High Priest of Dagon, Tonio (I Pagliacci), Nabucco and Rigoletto; Hamburg: Hidraot (Armide), Macbeth, Tonio (I Pagliacci), Alfio (Cavalleria rusticana), Germont, Rigoletto and Nabucco; Stuttgart: Méphisto, Macbeth; Karlsruhe: Golaud, the High Priest of Dagon; Leipzig (Opernhaus): Rigoletto and Mephisto; and Leipzig (Gewandhaus): In Terra Pax, Méphisto, Ludwig (Die Legende von der heiligen Elisabeth), Gérard (Andrea Chenier); Dresden: Nabucco and Scarpia and Baden-Baden: 8th Symphony of Mahler and Mephisto. He often takes part in productions in Canada (Montreal, festival de Lanaudière) and in the USA (Philadelphia, New York(Carnegie Hall), Pittsburgh, Boston and Tanglewood) and also in South America (Rio (Jochanaan), Caracas (Golaud), Lima (Escamillo).
He collaborates closely with the Festival of Bregenz (Austria) : Escamillo and Renato (on the lake) and in the Festspielhaus the High Priest of Dagon, Mephisto (Damnation), Giovanni lo Sciancato (Francesca da Rimini of Zandonai), Le Roi Arthus (Chausson). In the Festival of Salzburg he has sung Thoas (Iphigénie en Tauride) , and Capulet (Romeo et Juliette).
Upcoming Projects: He will soon be heard as Comte des Grieux (Manon by Massenet) at La Scala, Laurence (Roméo et Juliette by Berlioz) in Tel-Aviv, the four Villains in Les Contes dHoffmann in Cincinnati, Le Roi de Trèfle (Lamour des Trois Oranges) in Paris and Iago (Otello) in Oslo.
