Elisabeth Meyer-Topsoe is a 'jugendlich-dramatische' soprano, born in Copenhagen and educated at the Royal Opera School in Stockholm, Sweden. Returning to Denmark she continued studies privately with Birgit Nilsson and the Danish professor Vagn Thordal.

Elisabeth Meyer-Topsoe made her stage debut in Augsburg, Germany, and during her two years with this house she sang amont others Leonore in Verdi's 'Trovatore' and the title part in Strauss' 'Arabella'. From 1990-93 Elisabeth Meyer-Topsoe was engaged at the Opera in Nürnberg.@Since 1993 she has been engaged as guest at the Royal Opera, Copenhagen, where she has sung Ariadne in Strauss' 'Ariadne auf Naxos', Die Marschallin 'Der Rosenkavalier' and Elisabeth 'Tannhäuser'.

In 1993 she sang the title role in Weber's 'Euryanthe' with Jeffrey Tate at the Aix-en-Provence Festival, and she was invited to join him in the 1994 'Ring' at the Chatelet Opera in Paris, where she sang Dritte Norne and Freia. In the summer of 1995 she sang Senta in 'The Flying Dutchman' at the Summerfestival in Savonlinna, Finland, and was reinvited to appear at the festival again. The press announced her to be the best Senta ever. She sang the same part at the Royal Opera, Copenhagen in 1996.@In January 1996 she was soloist in Zemlinsky's Lyrische Sinfonie with the Orchestre de Paris, and she made her debut as Chrysotemis in 'Elektra' at the Rome Opera, a performance which was a great success with press and audience. @In 1997 she was soloist in Brahms Requiem with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Aldo Ceccato. Same year she sang Ariadne in 'Ariadne auf Naxos' at Maggio Musicale, Florence conducted by Zubin Mehta. At Savonlinna she sang Elisabeth in 'Tannhäuser' with Leif Segerstam.@Engagements in the 97/98 season included Senta in Stockholm with Sixten Ehrling, Leonore in 'Fidelio' at Theatre des Champs d'Elysees, Paris, Strauss 'Daphne' in Strasbourg, Ariadne in Toulouse and Lausanne (Conductor: Jesus Lopez-Cobos), and 'Vier letzte Lieder' with the Bamberger Symphoniker with Horst Stein. @In June '98 Elisabeth Meyer-Topsoe had a great personal success as Marschallin at Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, and she also sang Sieglinde in Augsburg. @She was a sensational Senta at Deutsche Opera, Berlin, conducted by C. Thielemann, who invited her back in both April 99 and May 2000 and she sang Chrysothemis in Salle Pleyel, Paris with conductor Semyon Bychkov. She also sang at the Royal Opera, Copenhagen (Senta in 1998 and Marschallin in 1999). She sang Marschallin in Trieste, Senta in Madrid, Ariadne in Nancy (Conductor: Bertrand de Billy), Elsa ('Lohengrin') in Torino with Pinchas Steinberg, and she was Ingeborg in 'Drot og Marsk' at the Danish National Opera, Aarhus. In addition a number of concerts - both Lieder-recitals and concerts with orchestra all over Europe.@In 2001 she has sung Marschallin in Sevilla with Ralf Weikert conducting.

Future highlights: 'Vier letzte Lieder' in St. Petersburg, Elisabeth ('Tannhäuser') in Nancy, Ellen Orford in 'Peter Grimes' in Trieste, 'Elektra' in Verona, Euryanthe in Cagliari and Bianca in Zemlinsky's 'Die Florentinische Komödie'. She sang as the first ever 'Vier letzte Lieder' in Moscow with the Russian National Orchestra with Vladimir Spivakov conducting in 2001.

Elisabeth Meyer-Topsoe has recorded Strauss 'Vier letzte Lieder' and Wesendonck-Lieder in 1994, and the recording was selected as 'Editor's Choice' in Gramophone and was awarded 'ffff' in Télérama'. She has also released a CD of Danish Hymns. In 1997 her CD-recording of arias by Strauss and Wagner was released.

Elisabeth Meyer-Topsoe has received numerous awards and prizes, and she was the first non-Swedish singer ever to receive the 'Birgit Nilsson Music-Prize'. In 1998 she was one of the soloists in Birgit Nilsson's 80 years' celebration concert at the Royal Opera, Stockholm.@
