| Born in Slovenia, he studied at the music academy in Ljubljana, making his debut at the Maribor opera house as Nemorino. |
| He has since appeared at the leading opera houses of Europe, including the Vienna State Opera, La Scala, Milan, Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Opéra-Bastille. He has sung Calaf in Vienna, Milan and Graz. His recent work has also included Bacchus in 'Ariadne auf Naxos', Cavaradossi, Canio, Arrigo (Vienna State Opera), Manrico (La Scala, Zurich Opera, Rome Opera), Don Alvaro (Deutsche Oper Berlin) and Pollux in 'Die Liebe der Danae' (Salzburg Festival). |
| He has recorded arias by Verdi, Rossini, Puccini and Glinka for Naxos. Among his plans are 'Ariadne auf Naxos' (Vienna State Opera, Tel-Aviv, Dresden) and 'Guillaume Tell' (Opéra-Bastille). This is his Royal Opera debut. |
