Peter Weber, Baritone, was born in Vienna, and received his musical training at the Conservatory of Music there. He received many prizes for his outstanding Lieder interpretations, both while he was a Student, and after graduation.
His repertoire includes roles from German, French and Italian Operas - encompassing Baroque to Modern works, as well as Operetta. In the past few years, he has turned his attention to the leading baritone characters in the Operas of Richard Strauss and Wagner, and these have become more and more the mainstay of his career. A recent high point was his extremely successful debut in Tokyo as Hans Sachs in Wagners Meistersinger von Nürnberg. He works regularly with renowned Conductors, such as Seiji Ozawa, Christian Thielemann and Christoph von Dohnanyi, as well as with leading Stage Directors.
Mr. Weber appears frequently in concerts in Europe, the United States, and Japan, and has been featured in many CD, TV and Radio recordings.
His first engagement was with the Opera Studio of the State Opera of Vienna. Then he sang for several seasons with the Nuremberg Opera Company, before being called to the State Opera of Hannover, where he was named Kammersänger for his outstanding work there. In 1993, he returned to the Vienna Opera, where he was again named Kammersänger. One of the highlights of his career there was his internationally praised portrayal of the title role in the world premiere of Schnittkes Opera Gesualdo. He is regularly heard in Vienna in such roles as Telramund (Lohengrin), Kurvenal, (Tristan und Isolde), Jochanaan (Salome), Barak (Die Frau ohne Schatten), Musiklehrer (Ariadne auf Naxos) Pizarro (Fidelio) and Borromeo, among others. He appears with the Vienna State Opera on tour as well, in Peking, Yokohama, Amsterdam, Paris, Athens, Valencia, Bucharest, and Belgrade.
Mr. Weber has been featured as guest performer in leading German opera houses, as well as at La Scala Milan, La Fenice in Venice, Opera Theater of Rome, Theater Liceu in Barcelona, Theater San Carlo in Lisbon, Theater Colón in Buenos Aires, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, Théâtre des Champs Elysées in Paris, the Zürich Opera, Dallas Opera, and the New National Theatre in Tokyo. Appearances in Summer Festivals include the Glyndebourne Festival, the Vienna Festival, Salzburg Mozart, Easter, and Summer Festivals, as well as Festivals in Ludwigsburg , Athens,Lucerne, Carpi.
