Sara Fulgoni has become one of the outstanding vocal and dramatic talents of her generation performing at the major opera and concert venues in a variety of repertoire, all to critical acclaim. The full, rich and lustrous quality of her voice, as well as her remarkable stage presence, have distinguished her operatic performances and Bizet’s Carmen has become a foundation of her work. She has sung the role for Santa Fe Opera, Toulouse (under Michel Plasson) and at the Beijing Music Festival where she became the first western interpreter of the role to be presented in the capital of China since the Cultural Revolution. This season she will sing Carmen in a new production for Geneva Opera.

During pervious visits to Geneva she has sung Penelope / Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria and Lola / Cavelleria Rusticana. A committed concert artist, Sara works with Guiseppe Sinopoli, Riccardo Chailly, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Jukka-Pekka Sarastre and Paul Daniel as a frequent guest of many orchestras throughout Europe and the US. Most recently she has sung both Mahler Symphony No. 8 and Urlicht from Des Knabenwunderhorn with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra under Riccardo Chailly both of which were also recorded by Decca. She has also recorded Elijah for Decca under Paul Daniel after performances at the Edinburgh Festival in 1998. In recital Sara has appeared at the Concertgebouw, Wigmore Hall, the Montreux-Vevy Festival and in the Chatelet’s Midis-Musicaux series. Future concert performances include Des Knaben Wunderhorn with Riccardo Chailly at the Concertgebouw, Cherubini Mass in D Minor with Riccardo Muti at La Scala, The Rake’s Progress in Sao Paolo, Pulcinella with the Real Filharmonica di Galicia and Das Lied von der Erde with the Resedentie Orchestra.

She has just finished singing the role of Judith / Bluebeard’s Castle with the Canadian Opera Company, aswell as performing in a new production of Béatrice et Bénédict for the Netherlands Opera and at Welsh National Opera, and Orfeo ed Euridice in Valladolid and La Coruna. Her future plans include the title role in Tobias Picker’s new opera Therèse Raquin for Dallas Opera, Penelope / Ulysses at the Bayerische Staatsoper, Munich, Federica / Luisa Miller in her debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Hänsel / Hänsel und Gretel in Richard Jones’ production in San Francisco, Nicklausse / Les Contes d’Hffmann in Nice, Orlofsky / Der Fledermaus in Calixto Bieito’s new production for WNO, Medoro / Orlando in Antwerp and Octavian / Der Rosenkavalier at the Netherlands Opera.
