The young bass Eldar Aliev began his professional career in 1994 at the Teatro Comunale di Treviso in a new production of Die Zauberflöte, conducted by Peter Maag. Since that time he has been heard in productions throughout Italy, Israel and many other European Countries.

In 1999/2000 season he returned to Wexford Festival for Giordano?s Siberia, performed in Attila at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, in Rigoletto (Sparafucile) at the Théâtre Municipal in Lausanne, in Pélleas et Mélisande (Arkel) with Vladimir Jurowski at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, in Don Giovanni at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin.

More recently, Eldar Aliev has sung as Sparafucile in Rigoletto in Munich, at the Teatro La Fenice di Venezia and at the Opéra National de Paris, as Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor at the Opéra National de Paris, I Capuleti e i Montecchi (Capellio) and Turandot (Timur) at the Royal Opera House-Covent Garden, Aida (Re) at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna and Macbeth (Banquo) at the Opéra National de Paris. He has just returned to the Teatro alla Scala to sing in the role of Astolfo in Lucrezia Borgia, sharing the stage with Mariella Devia, and premièred L'ufficiale della guardia at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari.

In 1998/9 season he sang in Il trovatore (Ferrando) at the Tenerife Festival, Don Carlo in a Japan tour organised by the Teatro Comunale di Bologna, The fiery Angel and La forza del destino at the Teatro alla Scala. His performance in Attila at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna met with an outstanding success, likewise his Sparafucile in Rigoletto at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels and his Timur in Turandot at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma.

In 1997/8 season Eldar Aliev was heard as the Czar in Rimsky-Korsakov's Zar Saltan at the Teatro Comunale di Firenze, Filippo II in Don Carlo at the Teatro Verdi di Trieste and Vescovo in La fiamma at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. He also performed with great success as Timur in Turandot at the Teatro Real of Madrid, Baldassarre in La favorita for Radio Vara in Amsterdam, Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor at Groningen Festival and Grande Inquisitore in Don Carlo at the Teatro Regio di Parma and at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna. His engagements since 1996 include The player at the Teatro alla Scala with Valéry Gergiev, Timur in Turandot and Colline in La Bohème at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, Monterone in Rigoletto at the Opéra de Lausanne, Oroveso in Norma at the Groningen Festival and Ernesto in La parisina at the Wexford Festival and in Lugano. To start 1997 Eldar Aliev performed as Sparafucile in Rigoletto at the New Israeli Opera, Gran Sacerdote in Nabucco at the Teatro Regio di Torino under Daniel Oren, and the role of the Pharaon in Moïse et Pharaon at the Rossini Opera Festival of Pesaro under Vladimir Jurowski.

Earlier in his career, Eldar Aliev performed the role of the Pope in Benvenuto Cellini by Berlioz at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, where he returned for Macbeth (Banquo) and Rigoletto (Sparafucile). He was next engaged for Guillaume Tell (Leuthold) by the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro and for Norma (Oroveso) at the Teatro Verdi di Trieste.

Eldar Aliev concert's activity includes Beethoven's IX Symphony in Mexico City, Haydn?s Stabat Mater with the Orchestra della Toscana in Florence, 'ostakovic's 13th Symphony at the Théâtre de la Monnaie de Bruxelles conducted by Rudolf Barshai, as well as with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, Mozart's Requiem with the Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto conducted by Peter Maag. He recently debuted in Verdi's Messa da Requiem at the Philharmonie of Bremen, work that he subsequently revisited in Bolzano with the Orchestra Haydn, followed by a concert in Brussels with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the conducting of Daniele Gatti.

Eldar Aliev was born in Baku in 1971. He began piano studies at early age and studied singing at the Conservatory in Baku, later completing his studies with Anatoli Gusev. In 1992 he received from the Academy of Osimo a scholarship which enabled him to relocate to Milan. In 1994 he won a place in the course of the «Amici del Loggione del Teatro alla Scala» given by Carlo Bergonzi, and the «Toti Dal Monte» Competition of Treviso for the role of Sarastro in Mozart?s Die Zauberflöte, for which he received excellent reviews in the Italian national press.
