Svensson Peter
tenore

Peter Svensson became the great hope among the young generation of Heldentenors when he\ngained wide international recognition by his huge success as RIENZI at the Prague State Opera in 1991. Born in 1961 in Vienna he started his singing career at the age of nine as the first soprano soloist of the world famous Vienna Boys Choir. He graduated from theVienna Music academy and further studies with James King led him to win the Birgit Nilsson Award in the Richard Tauber Singers Contest in London in 1991. Already in 1988 Claudio Abbado noticed Peter Svensson in the Vienna Music Festival and brought him to the Vienna State Opera with a beginners contract in 1990-91. Since then the young Heldentenor has performanced in a number of Europes grand Opera houses as La Scala Milano, Brussels, Paris' Opera Comique, Athens, Hamburg, Prague, Cologne, Berlin, and several others. The artist has been invited to sing at the festivals of Vienna, Edinburgh, Ankara, Wexford, Shaljapin-Opera-Festival (Kazan/Russia),...\nHe has performed with many leading European Orchestras, and sung under the baton of\ndistinguished conductors as there are Claudio Abbado, Sir John Eliot Gardiner,\nLeopold Hager, Neeme Järvi, Armin Jourdan, Sir Charles Mackerras, Donald Runnicles, Sir Georg Solti or Horst Stein. Peter Svensson has got a wide Operarepertory but concentrated more and more on the German heroic parts such as FLORESTAN, BACCHUS, MAX, HERMANN (Queen of\nSpades), RIENZI, ERIK, TANNHÄUSER, SIEGMUND, and, coming in November 1998\nand March 1999, both of the SIEGFRIEDS. The excellent interpretation of difficult Tenor parts such as for instance in Mahlers 8. Symphony and Song of Earth, or Janaceks Glagolitic Mass brought the artist to the most famous Europeans Concert Halls. Peter Svensson has appeared in Radio- and TV- Shows as well as on CD- recordings, which are: Highlights of the Prague Rienzi 1991 (Live), the FIRST ARMED MAN in Magic Flute under Sir Charles Mackerras (Telarc) LE ROI OEDIPE (Titlerole) under Neeme Järvi (Chandos), the tenor parts in Janaceks Glagolitic Mass and Psalmus Hungaricus (Kodaly) under Sir Charles Mackerras (Chandos), the tenor part in Rudolf Tobias' Oratory "Jona's Mission" under Neeme Järvi (BIS records).\n
