Esperian Kallen
soprano

American soprano Kallen Esperian is one of the leading sopranos of our times and performs at the world's pre-eminent opera houses. Engagements in the season 2002/2003 include her role debut as Madama Butterfly at the Nederlandse Opera Amsterdam, which she repeats at the Opera Memphis right after. In Cagliari, the artist gives a further role debut as Countess in Richard Strauss' Capricccio. Her forthcoming plans take her to the Sächsiche Staatsoper Dresden for Aida and Tosca, the Deutsche Oper Berlin for Ballo in maschera as well as to the Metropolitan Opera New York for Madame Butterfly.

Earlier career highlights include the Metropolitan Opera Opening Night Gala in 1993 with Pavarotti and Domingo; a great triumph as Desdemona to Placido Domingo's Otello with the Opéra National de Paris and as Lina for La Scala's first-ever Stiffelio with José Carreras. Desdemona at the Teatro Comunale Bologna, Liu in Chicago, both Desdemona and Amelia (Simon Boccanegra) at Covent Garden London and her sensational comeback at the Lyric Opera of Chicago as Desdemona in the 2001/2002 season. In that season, she interpreted the title role in the new production of Puccini's Manon Lescaut at the Bavarian State Opera Munich next to Sergej Larin as Des Grieux and with Maestro Fabio Luisi conducting. In Munich she also took part as Manon Lescaut in the Opera Festival 2002 and sang Amelia in Verdi's Un Ballo in maschera in April of the very same year. At the occasion of the Munich Opera Festival 2001, she could be seen as Elisabetta in Verdi's Don Carlo under the baton of Zubin Mehta and at the Carnegie Hall in New York she celebrated a further triumph as Desdemona. Important role debuts were La Traviata at the Opera Memphis and Norma at both the Pittsburgh Opera and the Opera Memphis.

As winner of the Luciano Pavarotti International Voice Competition in Philadelphia, she debuted very successfully at the Metropolitan Opera New York, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Teatro alla Scala di Milano, Opéra National de Paris, Teatro Colon Buenos Aires, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Teatro Comunale Bologna, Teatro San Carlo Napoli and at the Arena di Verona.

In addition to opera, Ms. Esperian is a world-wide renowned recitals and concert singer. She has performed with many of the world's major orchestras and has sung numerous performances of the Verdi Requiem with several of the world's great conductors including: Sir Colin Davis, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Robert Shaw, Daniele Gatti (the concert in Naples together with Luciano Pavarotti is available on Video), Daniel Oren and David Zinman. With Myung-Whun Chung, she sang Rossini's Stabat Mater and performed in Beethoven?s Symphony No. 9 at the Chorégies d?Orange. @
