| Nucci Leo Francesco | baritono |
Leo Nucci was born in Castiglione dei Pepoli (Bologna), and studied singing with Mo. Giuseppe Marchesi in Bologna, continuing them subsequently with Mo. Ottavio Bizzarri and with Mo. Mario Bigazzi. His debut in a main role was as Figaro in Rossini's 'Il Barbiere di Siviglia' at the Teatro Sperimentale 'A. Belli' in Spoleto in 1967. After several years, he stopped his career as a soloist on the opera stage to become a member of the Choir of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. During those five years of activity, he continued to improve his singing ability, and took part in various competitions. He won the 'Viotti' international Competition, and subsequently he made his return to the opera stage as a soloist. In 1977, he made his debut at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, again in the role of Figaro in 'Il Barbiere di Siviglia', following which he began his activity in the major Italian theatres. In 1978, his international career took off, when he was called to substitute for a colleague in the role of Miller in Verdi's 'Luisa Miller' at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London. Since then, he has been regularly singing in the most important theatres in the world. His favourite roles which have made him world renown and brought him major success are Rigoletto by G. Verdi, as well as Figaro in Rossini's 'Il Barbiere di Siviglia', two roles that he has - maybe the unique case in the history of opera - sung in all the major opera houses existing. Leo Nucci has recorded more than thirty complete operas with conductors such as Herbert von Karajan, Sir Georg Solti, Riccardo Muti, Claudio Abbado, Lorin Maazel, Riccardo Chailly, James Levine, Zubin Mehta, Carlo Maria Giulini, Giuseppe Patané, having as partners the most important colleagues in the opera's world. He has also taken part in two films: 'Macbeth' presented at the International Film Festival in Cannes in 1987, and 'Il Barbiere di Siviglia', together with several live operas video-recordings. In recent years, Leo Nucci has put beside his opera repertoire also a repertoire, wrongly called 'light', once the exclusive prerogative of tenors, with the record 'Parlami d'Amore', in collaboration with Mo. Paolo Marcarini. With him, he has begun a close collaboration which has led him to perform several concerts in Italy and in Europe, accompanied by the instrumental group 'Salotto 800'. |
