Davidson Ilana
soprano

Ilana Davidson made her Carnegie Hall debut in 1995 as soloist with Leonard Slatkin and the St. Louis Symphony in William Bolcom's 'Songs of Innocence and of Experience' to rave reviews in The New York Times, The Village Voice, and The Boston Globe. This summer, Ms. Davidson sang the role of Amore in Giovanni Legrenzi's La Divisione del Mondo (1675) conducted by Thomas Hengelbrock at the Schwetzinger Festspiele and the Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik.

The 2000-01 season will also include Amor in Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice in the Netherlands, Papagena with the Vlammse Opera in Belgium, Haydn's Die Schöpfung in Philadelphia, and Schumann's Requiem für Mignon with the Residentie Orkest in the Netherlands. Ms. Davidson will also perform Ernst Krenek's Die Nachtigall, a work for soprano and orchestra, with the Austrian Chamber Symphony in New York to celebrate the composer's centennial. In March, 2001, Ms. Davidson will make her debut with The Orchestra of St. Luke's in a series of Bach Cantatas.

The 2000-02 season includes concert performances of Handel's Messiah with the Pacific Symphony Orchestra in California.

Ms. Davidson has sung Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, Chef der Gepopo in Ligeti's Le Grand Macabre, Oscar in Un Ballo in Maschera, and Amore in L'Incoronazione di Poppea throughout Europe and the United States, including performances with Florida Grand Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, Opera Company of Philadelphia, Staatstheater Stuttgart, the Jugendstiltheater in Vienna, and De Nationale Reisopera in the Netherlands.

In January of 1999, Ms. Davidson made her Vienna debut as Die Königen in Krenek's Das Geheime Königreich. One week later, she stepped in at a moment's notice to sing Ligeti's Mysteries of the Macabre with the Eos Orchestra conducted by Jonathan Sheffer in New York.

Recent concert performances include her Amsterdam Concertgebouw debut singing Mozart arias with the Nieuw Sinfonietta; Mozart's Requiem and Handel's Messiah in Stuttgart, Mannheim and Heidelberg; as well as an all-Mozart program with pianist Christian Zacharias and the Schlierbacher Kammerorkester.

Ms. Davidson is a champion of contemporary literature, premiering works such as Gong by Oliver Knussen (for Leonard Bernstein's birthday gala at Tanglewood), Blood On The Dining-Room Floor by Jonathan Sheffer, A Pillar of Fire by her father, Charles Davidson, and works by Bolcom, Ligeti, Rorem, Kurtag, Krenek, and Weill.

Ms. Davidson's recordings include 'Britten works for Soprano, Tenor, and Harp' (Bonton Records / Prague) and Kurt Weil's 'Down in the Valley' (Capriccio).@
