Claire Glaskin was born in London and educated in Nottingham. She gained a BA (Hons) in Dance and Movement at the Laban Centre in London and afterwards pursued a career as a contemporary dancer. Whilst teaching movement at the Webber-Douglas Academy of Drama, London, she became increasingly interested in theatre and she explored this further by spending a season as Movement and Choreography Intern with Shakespeare & Co. in Massachusetts, USA. Returning to London, she was awarded a Churchill Fellowship in Theatre and subsequently spent four months working as choreographic and movement assistant to John Broome at Stratford Festival Theatre, Ontario. Productions worked on during this period included Shoemaker's Holiday, The Changeling, The Country Wife, Titus Andronicus and Midsummer Night's Dream.
After a period as Co-ordinator of Dance & Movement at Webber-Douglas, Claire began teaching movement at the Opera School of the Royal College of Music, London and here she began to choreograph for opera productions. Amongst her credits at the RCM are An Evening of Sondheim, Le Comte Ory, LEnfant et les Sortilèges, Acis and Galatea, The Rakes Progress, La Bohème, La Fille du Régiment and The Knot Garden. She was choreographer/ movement director for Den Norske Operas productions of Götterdämmerung and Das Rheingold, which also came to the UK. For Opera Zuid, Maastricht, Claire has worked on Le Nozze di Figaro for Mike Ashman, La Fanciulla del West for Christopher Alden, and La Cenerentola with Keith Warner. She also collaborated with Keith Warner on his Siegfried in Tokyo and in 2003 made her debut at Grange Park Opera choreographing Iolanthe in Janis Kellys production.
For Opera North Claire has worked with Olivia Fuchs on Rusalka and Don Giovanni and with Christopher Alden on four of the 8 Little Greats and for ENO The Rhinegold with Phyllida Lloyd, Sir John in Love with Ian Judge and The Makropulos Case with Chirstopher Alden. Further collaboration with Keith Warner has included the revival of La Cenerentola in Frankfurt and Siegfried at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Other recent projects include Carmen with Aidan Lang for Mid-Wales Opera and Ascanio in Alba with Stephen Lawless at Buxton Festival.
Current and future projects include choreographer/movement director The Ring (Covent Garden) with Keith Warner, Maynight (Garsington) and Rusalka (Sydney) with Olivia Fuchs, La Jolie Fille de Perth with Mike Ashman (Buxton Festival), La Vida Breve (Greek National Opera) and Orfeo (Opera North and Norweigan Opera) with Christopher Alden and Jenufa (ENO) and Il Ritorno dUlysse in Patria (WNO) with David Alden.
