| Paley Ivan | baritono |
Iván Paley, born in Argentina in 1979, studied piano and composition at the Universidad Nacional Buenos Aires. At the age of 12, Mr. Paley composed his first piano sonata and made solo appearances as a pianist. The young baritone continued his musical studies in vocal performance in the Opera Department at Miami University (USA) with Franklin Summers and then began his career as a concert and opera singer. Ivan Paley has performed over 50 solo concerts in South America, accompanied by pianist Beatriz Acosta. Since moving to Vienna in 2000, he has had an ongoing collaboration with pianist Stephan Matthias Lademann and Russel Ryan.
Mr. Paley has so far appeared as a guest at the Teatro Colón Buenos Aires, Nationaltheater Mannheim, Teatro Colón in Bogota, Florida Grand Opera Miami and Theater Kaiserslautern, performing lyric baritone roles by Purcell, Gluck, Mozart, Weber and Verdi. He has worked with renowned conductors such as Julius Rudel, Leopold Hager, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Alejandro Posada and Wolfgang Sawallisch.
In 1996, he began to direct his artistic focus to the German Lied repertoire and has since then been studying the artistic aspects and the vocal technique of this field with Kammersängerin Edith Mathis in Vienna and Professor Hanna Ludwig in Salzburg. He has given numerous Liederabends of the song cycles of Schubert, Schumann, Beethoven, Brahms and Wolf and has also performed works by Liszt, Haydn, Strauss, Mahler, Duparc, Poulenc, Bellini and Donizetti. He has performed solo concerts and Liederabends in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, and Croatia.
2001 marked the beginning of Paleys highly acclaimed cooperation with soprano Diana Damrau, with whom he has since appeared regularly in duo evenings. Together with Ms. Damrau, Iván Paley recorded Gustav Mahlers Des Knaben Wunderhorn in its original version for two voices and piano. The recording, released in 2004 by telos music vocal, is the world premiere recording of this version. Due to the originality of their interpretation, Paley and Damrau were awarded the Gustav Mahler Sonderpreis des internationalen Toblacher Schallplattenpreis 2004.
Current projects include a recording of Mahlers Lied von der Erde for baritone and tenor together with Robert Dean Smith. Future projects include another CD recording with Ms. Damrau and pianist Stephan Matthias Lademann of the Schumann cycle "Myrten". Also planned is a Lied recording with Edita Gruberova and Friedrich Haider.
