The Greek colorature soprano Vassilik Karayanni was born in Patras (Greece). She was trained in voice and piano at the Greek National Conservatory Athens. From there she holds a dipoloma in solo singing with grade A and a first prize (1994). Her guiding teacher was Barbara Gavakou. In 1995 at the competition of scholarship Maria Callas which as held at the Athens Megaron Concert Hall she took a distinction for the artistic possibilities in the development of her voice. Vassiliki Karayanni made her stage debut at the International Festival of Corfu in 1994, singing the part of Nina in the opera La Martire composed by Spiros Samaras. She was guest soloist at the Greek National Opera Athens with the following parts: Queen of the Night (Magic Flute), Olympia (The Tales of Hoffmann), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), Zerbinetta (Ariadne auf Naxos), Rosina (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Despina (Così fan tutte), Gilda (Rigoletto), Violetta (La Traviata), Blonde (Die Entführung aus dem Serail). In 2003/04 she will sing at the Greek National Opera Athens the part of Norina (Don Pasquale). In 1997 Vassiliki Karayanni participated in the world premier eof the opera Momo composed by Aliks Baltas, where she performed the title role of Momo at the Athens Megaron Concert Hall. In 2001 she sang in Jean Michel Jarres concert in Herodes Atticus Theatre of Athens. Furthermore Vassiliki Karayanni performed at opera companies like Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf (as Gilda), the Teatro Maggio Musicale Fiorentino (as Carolina-Il matrimonio segreto), The Teatro San Carlo Napoli (as Gismonda-Il marito disperato), and the Teatro Nacional Sao Carlos Lisboa (as Zerbinetta). In 2004 Vassiliki Karayanni made her debut at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden London as Olympia (The Tales of Hoffmann). Further plans include Olympia (The Tales of Hoffmann) at Vienna State Opera. |
