| Alberto Fassini was born in Palermo. He early moved to Rome, where he met Luchino Visconti with whom he started to work really close. His career began directing several revivals of Visconti's productions in Milan. |
| After his debuts in prose theatre with Fogli d'album in Spoleto, and in operatic repertoire with Andrea Chénier at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, he has worked in several important Italian and European theatres. |
| His many productions include Mosè, Giovanna d'Arco, Attila, Belisario, Medea and Orfeo ed Euridice at the Teatro la Fenice di Venezia and at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples; Giulio Cesare, Thaïs, La traviata and Werther at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma; Francesca da Rimini, Manon Lescaut and Adriana Lecouvreur at the Teatro Regio di Torino; Macbeth and Francesca da Rimini at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna; La dama di picche in Florence; the world première of Nino Rota's Visita meravigliosa, as well as Francesca da Rimini, Tosca and Händel's Agrippina in Palermo; Adriana Lecouvreur, Massenet's Manon, La Bohème and Loreley in Genoa; Caterina Cornaro, Gemma di Vergy, Medea in Corinto, Un ballo in maschera and Roberto Devereux at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples; Aida in Bordeaux, Les dialogues des Carmélites in Verona, Lucia di Lammermoor and Roméo et Juliette in Palermo and Turin. |
| In 1999/2000 season Alberto Fassini returned to the Teatro Comunale di Bologna for Tosca and to the New National Theatre of Tokyo for Rigoletto, staged Les dialogues des Carmélites in Cagliari, La traviata at the Teatro Verdi di Trieste and at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, Roméo et Juliette at the Teatro Regio di Parma. |
| Last season he directed Nabucco in Cagliari, Rigoletto, Un ballo in maschera and Il trovatore in Tokyo, as well as La traviata at the Teatro Regio di Torino and on a Japan tour of the Teatro La Fenice di Venezia. |
| In 2001 he also staged Il trovatore and Un ballo in maschera at the Teatro dell?Opera di Roma, La straniera at the Teatro Massimo Bellini di Catania and Norma at the Teatro Regio di Torino. |
| More recently, Alberto Fassini gained great success and enthusiastic approvals with his staging of Don Carlo and Werther at the New National Theatre in Tokyo, Manon at the Teatro di San Carlo di Napoli, Il trovatore at the Teatro de La Maestranza in Sevilla, Otello at the Teatro La Fenice di Venezia and Rigoletto at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari. He has just returned to the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma for a successful new production of Adriana Lecouvreur and to the Teatro Regio di Parma for Alzira and La forza del destino. |
