Born in Kazakhstan, Larissa Schmidt studied singing at the Conservatory of Novosibirsk and at the Conservatory of Lubeck and graduated at the «Accademia di Perfezionamento per Cantanti Lirici del Teatro alla Scala». She took also part in the specialising courses led by Luis Alva, Giovanna Canetti, Leyla Gencer, Leo Nucci, Luciana Serra, Shirley Verret. |
Larissa Schmidt made her operatic debut in 1999 singing as Zita in Gianni Schicchi at the Musikhochschule of Lubeck. She has subsequently sung in Piccinni's La Cecchina (Paoluccia) in Saronno, Milan, Pavia and Lecco (November/December 1999) and at the Teatro Piccinni di Bari in November 2000 (recorded on the Bongiovanni label). |
In February 2000 she made her Teatro alla Scala debut singing as Dangeville in Adriana Lecouvreur under the baton of Roberto Rizzi Brignoli and directed by Lamberto Puggelli. Since then, she has appeared regularly on La Scala stage, taking part in new productions and world premières and having the chance to collaborate with outstanding directors and conductors. In Summer 2000 she sang there the role of Mirandolina in Chi dell'altrui si veste presto si spoglia by Cimarosa (conductor Rizzi Brignoli, director Caterina Panti Liberovici) and performed as Olenina in the world première of Azio Corghi's Tat'jana staged by Peter Stein. In January 2001 she sang in a new production of the La sonnambula (Teresa) under the baton of Maurizio Benini and directed by Pier'Alli, followed by La Cenerentola (Tisbe), with the conducting of Bruno Campanella and the staging of Jean Pierre Ponnelle, Il barbiere di Siviglia (Rosina), Oberto, conte di San Bonifacio (Cuniza) and L'italiana in Algeri (Zulma; led by Corrado Rovaris), again at the Teatro alla Scala. |
She has recently sung in Klagenfurt in the title role of La Cenerentola, has taken part in a Dario Fo successful production of Il barbiere di Siviglia (Rosina) in the theatres of Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Groningen, Gouda and Plovdiv (under the baton of Marco Boemi), and revisited the role of Cuniza for her debut at the Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova. In Livorno, Pisa and Lucca she was Beppe in L'amico Fritz, conducted by Roberto Tolomelli. Larissa Schmidt just debuted at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna with Jolanta (Laura), under the baton of Vladimir Jurowski. |
In addition to her vast operatic repertoire, Larissa Schmidt maintains an active schedule of concert performances in Italy and abroad. In 1997 she sang as soloist at the Vicelin-Kirche of Pronstorf (Germany), then at the Rathaus in Lubeck (1997 and 1999), in Massa Carrara (January 2000) and in a recital for the review Cantoforum at the Teatro alla Scala (March 2000). She has subsequently performed in Stravinskij's Missa at the St. Marco Church in Milan under the baton of Roberto Gabbiani, and has taken part in a concert at La Scala with Stefano Ranzani and at the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala Orchestra. |
For the 30th anniversary of the Teatro alla Scala debut of Riccardo Muti, Larissa Schmidt sang in a prestigious concert with pianist Bruno Canino and the Orchestra and Choir of the Teatro alla Scala. In November 2000 she took part in a recital dedicated to Kurt Weill (for the centenary of his birth) and, more recently, she has performed in two concerts under the baton of Daniele Callegari at the Teatro alla Scala and in Monza (Pergolesi's Stabat Mater), in Christmas concert with Muti and a solo recital Giovani per Verdi. |
Highlights of Larissa Schmidt's future engagements include the performance of Adelina (Carlotta) at Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Il turco in Italia (Zaida) in Chieti, and Il barbiere di Siviglia (Rosina) at Teatro Verdi di Trieste. During the 2004/5 season, she will also return on the stage of the Teatro alla Scala for a new production of La Cenerentola. |
