Georgian baritone Lado Ataneli studied at the State Academy of Music in his hometown of Tiflis. In 1989, he made his debut in Un ballo in maschera (Renato) at the National Theatre of Tiflis. In 1991, he won the first prize and the Grand Prix at the international Francisco-Vinas-Competition in Barcelona. He repeated this success at other singing competitions all over Europe, such as the international event "I Cestelli" of the Italian opera in Cologne in 1996, and the 15th Belvedere competition in Vienna.@In 1996, the artist began his international career at the Finnish National Opera Helsinki in Tosca (Scarpia), followed by debuts at the Deutsche Oper Berlin with Tosca, at the Klangbogen Wien in Macbeth and Falstaff with the Orchestra Royal Opera Covent Garden and, in 1997, at the Teatro alla Scala with Macbeth. |
After his debut at the Wiener Staatsoper in Tosca (Scarpia), Lado Ataneli also made his debut in Otello (Jago) at the Hamburgische Staatsoper and at the Stadttheater in Bern. He has subsequently returned to Hamburg with the productions of Cavalleria Rusticana (Alfio), I Pagliacci (Tonio) and a new production of La forza del destino (Carlo). He also appeared at the Bregenzer Festspiele in Un ballo in maschera (Renato). |
In the 1999/2000 season he sang at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin in a new production of La traviata (Padre Germont), in Tosca (Scarpia), Lucia di Lammermoor (Enrico), Macbeth (title role), Un ballo in maschera (Renato), Madama Butterfly (Sharpless), Aida (Amonasro); at the Hamburgische Staatsoper in La forza del destino (Don Carlo), Otello (Jago); in Lisbon and at the Gran Teatre de Liceu in Barcelona in a new production of Un ballo in maschera (Renato); at the Opéra National de Paris in the title role of Nabucco. |
Lado Ataneli spent the 2000/1 season at the Bayerische Staatsoper (Tosca), at the Wiener Staatsoper (Cavalleria Rusticana and I Pagliacci), at the Gran Théâtre de Genève (new production of Tosca) and at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin (La traviata, Aida, Tosca). During the last season he has returned to Vienna for Un ballo in maschera and Aida, to Paris for Rigoletto and Tosca, he performed in Nabucco at the Cincinnati Opera, as Gran Sacerdote di Dagone in a new production of Samson et Dalila at the Teatro Carlo Felice di Genova and in Cavalleria Rusticana (Alfio) and I pagliacci at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie de Bruxelles. Engagements at the Norske Opera in Oslo (Tosca), at the Los Angeles Opera (Nabucco), Deutsche Oper in Berlin (La traviata), at the Hamburgische Staatsoper (Un ballo in maschera) and at Wiener Staatsoper (Nabucco, Un ballo in maschera) have followed. |
Highlights of his future engagements include Il Trovatore at the Opéra National de Paris, La traviata at the Teatro La Fenice di Venezia, Nabucco at the Hamburgische Staatsoper, in Orange and in Bilbao, La fanciulla del West at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin. Lado Ataneli will also debut at the Metropolitan Opera of New York with La Traviata and at the Royal Opera House-Covent Garden in London with I Pagliacci, and will enjoy a prestigious collaboration with the Wiener Staatsoper (Andrea Chénier, Cavalleria Rusticana, I Pagliacci). |
