Leonardo De Lisi is a regular guest of some of the most prestigious theatres and concert halls throughout the world, such as the Musée d'Orsay and the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées de Paris, the Festival Wratislavia Cantans in Breslau, the Spring Festival in Budapest, the Accademia Chigiana di Siena, the Ghnessin Institut in Moscow, the Merkin Hall in New York, the Teatro Valli di Reggio Emilia. During the Biennale di Venezia in 1999 he sang in concerts with Igor Stravinskij's chamber and orchestra compositions. In collaboration with the Fondazione Cini and the Teatro La Fenice di Venezia, Leonardo De Lisi took part in the world première of Nino Rota?s Il Natale degl'innocenti, as well as in a concert with arias for tenor and orchestra by Mozart. More recently, he sang Carmina Burana with the Orchestra Stabile di Bergamo and Das Lied von der Erde in Genoa with the Giovine Orchestra Genovese. |
He sang as a soloist with important orchestras as, among others, the Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Orchestra Regionale della Toscana, the Orchestra du Capitole de Toulouse, the Philharmonie de Nice, under the baton of Gianandrea Gavazzeni, Michel Plasson, Bruno Bartoletti, Peter Maag, Fabio Luisi, Klaus Weise, Manlio Benzi. Some of his concerts have been recorded by Rai, Radio France, BBC, ORF, Hessischer Rundfunk, Holland Radio Television. In January 1996 he was a guest of honour at the Gala concert dedicated to Elly Ameling, at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. |
Leonardo De Lisi began his musical studies before as a pianist and a composer, and then as a singer. He graduated with full marks in Singing at the C. Pollini Conservatory in Padova and in Vocal Chamber Music at the A. Boito Conservatory in Parma. He specialised first with Gastone Limarilli and then under the guidance of Dalton Baldwin, Carlo Bergonzi, Margaret Baker Genovesi, Rodolfo Celletti, Ileana Cotrubas, Irwin Gage, Ré Koster, Gérard Souzay. |
He was the winner of several Competitions, such as the Concorso Nazionale Città di Conegliano Veneto (1986), the International Competition Hugo Wolf in Stuttgart (1987) and the Walther Gruner in London (1989). He also won the second prize and the special prize for the French melody at the International Competition of the Opéra de Nantes (1989), the first prizes at the International Competition I.V.C. in Hertogenbosch, Holland (1994), and at the Concorso Internazionale C. A. Seghizzi di Gorizia (1998). |
Among his recordings it is worth including the CDs live of La Rondine (Prunier) and of Händel's Messiah for Kicco Classics, Schubert's Lieder on the Dynamic Records and Vocalia labels, melodies by Mario Castelnuovo Tedesco. For the Channel Classics of Amsterdam he recorded all the Liriche by Respighi, ("Leonardo De Lisi is a discovery!", Gramophone, September 1997). |
Leonardo De Lisi made his operatic debuts in 1990, at the Teatro Olimpico di Vicenza and at the Festival di Martina Franca. In 1991 he successfully portrayed the role of Alessandro in Il Re Pastore at the Festival of Aldeburgh. From 1992 to 1994 he has sang as soloist at the Opéra de Nice, performing there in several leading roles. He subsequently made his debuts in the role of Alfredo in La traviata at the Dublin Opera and in the title roles of L'Orfeo and Il ritorno di Ulisse in patria at the Teatro Verdi di Pisa (1995/6). At the Teatro Alighieri di Ravenna (1997) he took part in the revivals of Cavalli's L'Ercole amante (Laomedonte) and in a Festival di San Gimignano production of Händel's Tamerlano (Bajazet); at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna he sang in the world première of Festa's Ero e Leandro and Scannavini's Codice Mosè; at the Teatro del Giglio di Lucca he performed in the role of Prunier in La rondine; at the Teatro Regio di Torino he was Barone de Laubardemont in Die Teufel von Loudun by Penderecki. In more recent seasons, Leonardo De Lisi has taken part in a tour throughout France, performing in La scala di seta (Tourcoing, St.Quentin-en-Yvelines, Reims, Besançon) under the baton of Jean-Claude Malgoire, and in the world première of Il fantasma della cabina, toured to Bergamo, Modena, Lucca and Messina. |
