| Colombo Francesco Maria | direttore d'orchestra |
Francesco Maria Colombo made his debut as a conductor and pianist in a concert with the Orchestra Stabile di Como and the legendary Soprano Renata Scotto, in 1998. Since then, he has enjoyed successful collaborations with the Palm Beach Opera, the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, the Vidin Philharmonic Orchestra (Bulgarian) and, more recently, with the Hungarian Symphony Orchestra at the Liszt Academy of Budapest. In 2001 Gian Carlo Menotti, who symbolically offered him the baton of Thomas Schippers, invited him to conduct the traditional concert in public square for the close of Spoleto Festival. In front of a public of 8,000 persons, Francesco Maria Colombo led the Orchestra of the Festival and the Choral Arts Society of Washington D.C. in compositions of Mendelssohn, Ciaikovskij and Borodin. The concert, broadcast live on RAI, was received with great acclaim both by the public and the press. |
Last season brought him on the podium of the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana in Palermo (Beethoven's Concert n.3, Schubert's Ninth Symphony), with the Orchestra della Toscana at Palazzo Pitti in Florence (Mozart, Beethoven), the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari in several occasions, the Orchestra di Roma e del Lazio at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia (Rameau, Fauré, Saint-Saens), the Orchestra Stabile di Bergamo (Mozart, Stravinskij, Mendelssohn), the Philarmonia Veneta (Debussy, Copland, Strauss), the Philharmonia Mediterranea Chorus & Orchestra (Pergolesi). He opened the 2003 season debuting on the podium of the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano "Giuseppe Verdi". |
Francesco Maria Colombo returned on the podium of the 2002 Spoleto Festival for a new production of Menotti's The Telephone and The Medium, directed by the composer himself. The conductor was unanimously praised by the public and the international press. His engagements included also new successful productions of Giordano's Mese Mariano at the Giordano Festival in Baveno, Lake Maggiore, and Offenbach's Les Contes d'Hoffmann in Brescia, Como, Cremona, and Pavia. |
Highlights of his future include concerts with the Orchestra Haydn di Trento e Bolzano and I Pomeriggi Musicali di Milano. |
Born in Milan, Francesco Maria Colombo graduated with full marks in Conducting at the Accademia Musicale of Pescara, under the guidance of Gusella and Renzetti; at the same time he attended Ferrara's and Giulini's masterclasses by the Accademia Chigiana di Siena. |
