The internationally acclaimed American tenor DON BERNARDINI continues to earn the highest accolades for his passionate, dramatic interpretations of the bel canto heroes of Bellini, Donizetti, Mozart and Verdi enriched by golden tone and rare musicianship. On the concert stage he brings depth and excitement to the choral works of Beethoven, Berlioz, Mozart and Rossini. Highlights of the current (2000-2001) season include his return to Stadttheater Bern for performances of Die Zauberflöte and Manon and his début at the Tiroler Landestheater (Innsbruck) in the title role of Rossini?s Otello. Recent guest engagements embraced his débuts at the Niedersächsische Staatsoper Hannover in La Cenerentola, at the Opéra de Nancy et de Lorraine in Simon Boccanegra at Stadttheater St. Gallen in Il Barbiere di Siviglia and at Theater Basel in Maria Stuarda. Recent productions in Bern, where he will sing the title role of Idomoneo in 2001-02, have included Così fan tutte, Lucia di Lammermoor, Otello (Cassio), Tosca, La Traviata and Werther. Mr. Bernardini has sung with such other international companies as the Opéra Comique in Paris, Hamburg Oper, Teatro dell?Opera di Roma, Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, Opernhaus Zürich, La Fenice in Venice, Opéra de Marseille, Teatro Regio Torino, Teatro Comunale Trieste, Opéra du Rhin in Strasbourg (his début performance in the title role of Roberto Devereux was recorded live and released on Nightingale Classics), Teatro Bellini in Catania, Teatro Massimo di Messina, Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, VARA Radio in the Netherlands, the New Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv, the Monterrey Opera in Mexico and has been engaged by the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. Other North American companies he has performed with include the Opera Companies of Baltimore, Calgary, Chautauqua, Cincinnati, Edmonton, Grand Rapids, Hawaii, Kentucky, Knoxville, Michigan, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Portland, San Diego, Seattle and Washington, the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Opera Pacific and the New York City Opera, to name a few. He has been guest soloist with the Symphony Orchestras of Columbus, Denver, Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, Oregon and West Virginia; the Buffalo, Evansville, Oklahoma City and Rochester Philharmonics; the Opera Orchestra of New York and at the Brevard Music Festival.He has been heard in recital at the Virginia Military Institute. In Europe he has been soloist with Nikolaus Harnoncourt at the Musikverein in Vienna, the Mälmo Symphony, the Swedish Radio Symphony (Donizetti?s Linda di Chamounix recorded live and released on Nightingale Classics), on several occasions with the ORF Symphonieorchester at the Konzerthaus in Vienna (his performance there of Bellini?s Beatrice di Tenda was also recorded live for Nightingale), the Auditorio Nacional de Musica in Madrid (Beethoven?s Symphony No. 9) and the Bamberger Symphoniker (Brahms? Liebeslieder Walzer and Rossini?s Petite Messe Solonnelle). |
