Dantone Ottavio
direttore d'orchestra

Ottavio Dantone graduated in organ and in harpsichord at the "G. Verdi" Conservatory in Milan. He started a successful concert career at a very young age, concentrating on ancient music.

He was the first Italian performer to obtain the first prize in two of the most important harpsichord competitions in the world: the International Competition of Paris (1985) and the International Competition of Bruges (1986).

In addition to his activities as soloist and leader of chamber ensembles, in the last years he has begun to perform as conductor of important orchestras throughout the world, opening to a classic and romantic repertoire and working with some of the most prestigious Italian orchestras and theatrical institutions.

In 1996 he was appointed Musical Director of the Accademia Bizantina di Ravenna.

Ottavio Dantone has toured in Europe, as well as in the Usa, Japan, Israel and Mexico, and is regular guest of the most important concert halls and institutions, such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Cité de la Musique de Paris, the Théâtre des Champs Elysées de Paris, Société Philharmonique de Brussels, Festival de Musique de Montreux-Vevey, the International Music Festival in Istanbul, the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the Holstein Festival, the Auditorium del Lingotto di Torino, Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, Ravenna Festival, Bologna Festival, Accademia di Santa Cecilia di Roma, Accademia Chigiana di Siena, the ORT Orchestra della Toscana, the Orchestra di Padova e del Veneto, the Orchestra Filarmonica Veneta and the Teatro Real in Madrid Orchestra.

In March 1999 he made his successful operatic debut with the world première of Giulio Sabino by Giuseppe Sarti at the Teatro Alighieri di Ravenna, with the Accademia Bizantina.

He was subsequently chosen by Riccardo Muti to conduct performances of Paisiello's Nina, ossia la pazza per amore at the Teatro alla Scala, Piccolo Teatro di Milano and Ravenna Festival. He has recently conducted the As.Li.Co. production of Le comte Ory, Olimpiade in Jesi, Ravenna and on a tour to Modena, Piacenza and Reggio Emilia, and returned on the podium of the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari for Così fan tutte, staged by Daniele Abbado, and for a recital with Barbara Frittoli and Anna Caterina Antonacci. He has just successfully debuted in Marin Faliero at the Teatro Regio di Parma (with Mariella Devia and Michele Pertusi), and in Milton for his first appearance at the Opéra de Rennes.

Ottavio Dantone will conduct, among others, Il matrimonio segreto at the Teatro Massimo di Palermo, L'Orfeo at Teatro Ponchielli di Cremona and, on the symphonic side, concerts in Ravenna with the Accademia Bizantina, in Milan with I Pomeriggi Musicali and in Florence with the Orchestra della Toscana.

Ottavio Dantone's discography includes several recording of compositions for soloist and chamber ensembles.

His recording of Sonate di gravícembalo by Pietro Domenico Paradisi was nominated by the main music critics as the best Cd of 1998. Since January 2003 he has recorded for Decca.
