Massimo Giordano studied flute and graduated from the «G. Tartini» Conservatory of Trieste. Then he devoted to study singing with Cecilia Fusco. He was finalist in several singing competitions such as the «I.Adami Corradetti» Competition of Padova and «F. P. Tosti» of Ortona, where he also received the Gold Medail. |
In 1997 Massimo Giordano won the «A. Belli» Competition in Spoleto, followed by his debut in La Clemenza di Tito (title role) at the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale and in La traviata (Alfredo) at the Teatro Nuovo. |
In 1997/8 season he made many important debuts as Ernesto in Don Pasquale at the Teatro Verdi di Trieste, in Bernstein's Candide in Lecce and as the protagonist in Massenet's Werther in Spoleto. In 1998 he also took part in the «Opera Giovani in Europa» tour where he made his debut as Rodolfo in La Bohème. |
In 1998/9 season he earned high praise as the protagonist in Massenet's Werther at the Teatro Valli di Reggio Emilia. Again in Reggio Emilia he performed in Petite Messe Solennelle, which was also recorded in CD. |
His 1999/2000 season was marked by his appearances in Giordano's Siberia (Alexis Frouwor) and Gounod's Faust (title role) at the Wexford Opera Festival, Roméo et Juliette (Roméo) at the Teatro Regio di Parma, Falstaff (Fenton) in Modena, Reggio Emilia and at the Semperoper in Dresden, followed by Le Jongleur de Notre-Dame at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma with Gianluigi Gelmetti, as well as concerts with the Symphony Orchestra of Stavanger. He has subsequently sung Werther (title role) at the Opernhaus in Zurich and at the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, Die Fledermaus (Alfred) at the Teatro Verdi di Trieste, Falstaff 's highlights in a concert in Berlin under the baton of Claudio Abbado, recorded on TDK. |
In 2001 Massimo Giordano successfully performed in La rondine (Ruggero) and Verdi's Requiem at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma and L'elisir d'amore at the Teatro Valli di Reggio Emilia, sang in Verdi's Messa da Requiem in Amsterdam and in a Concert Gala with Gasdia, D'Intino e D'Arcangelo for the bicentenary of the Teatro Verdi di Trieste. He enjoyed outstanding success and enthusiastic approvals with his recent appearances as Fenton in Falstaff at the Osterfestspiele in Salzburg, conducted by Claudio Abbado, and at the Salzburger Festspiele under the baton of Lorin Maazel and at the Teatro Real in Madrid, in Un giorno di regno at the Teatro alla Scala under the baton of Corrado Rovaris and staged by Pizzi, and as Duca di Mantova in Rigoletto at the Teatro Real in Madrid (Graham Vick, stage director) and at the Teatro La Fenice di Venezia, and with his debut in the role of Oronte in I Lombardi alla prima crociata at the Teatro Ponchielli di Cremona, in Como, Brescia, Pavia and Bergamo. |
Massimo Giordano opened his 2002 season singing in La traviata at the Japan Opera Foundation in Tokyo, as Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi and in Rossini's Stabat Mater at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, followed by the return to the Teatro La Fenice di Venezia in Don Pasquale (Ernesto) and to the Teatro Verdi di Busseto for the successful appearance in a new production of Rigoletto staged by Vittorio Sgarbi. He has just made his much awaited US debut, having performed in La Traviata (Alfredo) at the Santa Fe Opera Festival, a work he then revisited at the New National Theatre in Tokyo (under the baton of Bruno Campanella) and at the Teatro alla Scala with Roberto Rizzi Brignoli. Again under the baton of Rizzi Bignoli, he has recently appeared at La Scala as Duca di Mantova, directed by Gilbert Deflo. At Teatro di San Carlo di Napoli he was Don Ottavio in a new production of Mario Martone, led by Gabriele Ferro; on the concert side, he travelled to Budapest (Hungarian State Opera) and to Las Palmas to perform as soloist in Verdi's Messa da Requiem, and sang in a concert at Deutsche Oper Berlin. Massimo Giordano has also just successfully debuted on the stage of Royal Opera House-Covent Garden in London with Falstaff (Fenton) and made his role-debut as Gerald in Lakmé at the Teatro Massimo di Palermo. |
Massimo Giordano's most important future engagements include La traviata (Alfredo Germont) at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin and at the Teatro Regio di Parma, La Bohème at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma and at Semperoper Dresden, Gianni Schicchi at the Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Verdi's Requiem in Sydney, L'elisir d'amore alla Wiener Staatsoper. Next release will be the recording on Cd of I lombardi alla prima crociata on the Dynamic label. |
