| The German soprano Diana Damrau attended the Musikhochschule in Würzburg and received her initial vocal training there from Carmen Hanganu and with Hanna Ludwig (she works with Prof. Ludwig to this day). She joined the ensemble of the Würzburg Stadttheater in 1996, and two years later joined the ensemble of the Nationaltheater in Mannheim, singing during several seasons there such roles as Gretel in "Hänsel und Gretel", the Queen of the Night in "Zauberflöte", Ännchen in "Der Freischütz", and the title role in "Lucia di Lammermoor". In 1999 she made her debut at the Bayerische Staatsoper as Zerbinetta in "Ariadne auf Naxos", followed by membership in the Frankfurt Opera, where her roles have included Sophie in "Der Rosenkavalier", Lucia, and Konstanze in "Die Entführung aus dem Serail". Ms. Damrau has also been heard as Queen of the Night at the Vienna Staatsoper and the Dresden Opera, and as Adele in "Die Fledermaus" under Zubin Mehta at the Bayerische Staatsoper. |
