Born in Livorno, he studied at Parma Conservatory.
He made his debut at Teatro Comunale, Florence, in '99 (La Serva Padrona), and returned there in various productions including Les Troyens(with Mehta and Vick), Il Trovatore (Ferrando) with Elder and Pizzi and La Sonnambula (Conte Rodolfo) with Oren and Tiezzi.
He has appeared at Italy's leading opera houses, including Roma Opera with La Boheme (Colline), Norma (Oroveso), Aida (Il Re); Teatro Massimo Palermo with Don Giovanni (Commendatore) and Macbeth (Banco); Teatro Regio Turin with Le Nozze di Figaro (Figaro) and Il Trovatore; Teatro Carlo Felice Genova with Lucia di Lammermoor (Raimondo), Regio di Parma with Norma, La Fenice, Venice with Pia De Tolomei (Lamberto) and Fondazione Toscanini in Aida (Ramfis).
He made his debut at La Scala Milan in La Boheme.
He has also perfomed in Lisbon with Medea (Creonte); Strasbourg in Turandot (Timur); Lyon in Otello (Lodovico); Operà de Marseille (Boheme and Il Trovatore); Athens (Turandot); Seville Teatro de la Maestranza (La Sonnambula).
Recently he has debut at Covent Garden in London with the new production of Tosca, conducted by Antonio Pappano.
