The actor, director and librettist made his Metropolitan Opera debut as stage director with 'La Fanciulla del West' in 1961, remaining with the company for a decade. He wrote the libretto for Marvin David Levy's 'Mourning Becomes Electra' (see 'On the Beat', page 14, and Joel Honig's 'Once is Not Enough', page 48) and also provided librettos for Robert Cumming's 'The Picnic' and Chester Biscardi's 'Tightrope'.
