In 1998/9 season he made his Italian debut at the Teatro San Carlo in Napoli performing in Verdi's Requiem conducted by Giuseppe Sinopoli, portrayed the role of Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni under the baton of Yoram David and of Macduff in Macbeth in Cagliari. He also appeared as Camille in the «Live From Lincoln Center» PBS broadcast of The Merry Widow with The New York City Opera, the creation of the role of Hippolytus in the world premiere and PBS televised production of Phaedra, and his film debut performing the role of the opera singer in the Barbra Streisand film The Mirror Has Two Faces. Carlo Scibelli sang in Un giorno di regno in a Royal Opera House-Covent Garden production for the «Verdi Festival» 1999, in Rigoletto at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein di Düsseldorf, in I Lombardi alla prima crociata at the Teatro Municipal in Santiago, Chile, as well as in concerts in Munich and San Diego. His 1999/2000 season was marked by successful performances of La traviata at the Hamilton Opera in Canada, at the Grand Rapids Opera Company and at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, and Madama Butterfly in Hawaii. 2000/1 season brought Carlo Scibelli to San Francisco for Der Rosenkavalier, to Minneapolis (Minnesota Opera Company) for I Capuleti e i Montecchi, to Montepulciano to sing as Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, to New York Caramour Festival to portray the role of Otello and to Miami for Lucia di Lammermoor. He opened the last season having taken part in a new production of La Bohème (Rodolfo) at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie de Liège, followed by the return to the Deutsche Oper Berlin for La traviata and Nabucco. He then appeared again in the role of Pinkerton at the Thessalonika Concert Hall and in London. |
Carlo Scibelli will soon revisit the role of Benjamin Franklin Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly) at the Nationale Reisopera in Enschede. He will also sing the title role in Les Contes d'Hoffmann and as Javier in Maria del Carmen at the Wexford Opera Festival. |
