Born in Colleferro (Rome), she received her diploma from the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome, and continued her studies with Antonietta Stella and Renato Scotto. |
In l995 she made her debut at the Teatro alla Scala in a production of La Damnation de Faust, conducted by Seiji Ozawa, and then covered the role of Elisabetta in Don Carlo at the Teatro alla Fenice di Venezia. |
As the winner of the 1996 International Pavarotti Competition, she appeared with Pavarotti in a staged production of the 3rd act of La Bohème in September 1996 in Philadelphia. |
She also received a scholarship from the Singers Development Foundation in New York City. |
In April 1997 she sang in concerts together with Pavarotti in the Yucatan, Mexico, San Josè, Califonia and in Seattle, Washington. |
In June 1997 she won the first prize, as well as the Audience Favourite Award, at the Placido Domingo Competition in Tokyo. |
In the season 1997/8 she made her debut as Mimi in La Bohème in Los Angeles and covered Mirella Freni in the new production of La Bohème at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. |
Carla Maria Izzo appeared also in the Teatro Comunale di Firenze's concert season in La Vita Nova by Wolf Ferrari in January 1998. In the summer she sang Liù in Turandot at the Arena Sferisterio di Macerata, and in October of the same year she appeared as Amelia in Simon Boccanegra with the Washington Opera. |
She has recently made her debut as Micaela in Carmen with the Lyric Opera in Chicago, to notable critical acclaim, and has been engaged in Parma for the production of Il Trovatore (Leonora) with performances in Reggio Emilia and Modena. In Wiesbaden, she sang in Madama Butterfly, followed by Mefistofele in Santiago, Chile, (Margherita and Elena) and at the Teatro Regio di Torino (Margherita), Suor Angelica at the Teatro dell?Opera di Roma, La Bohème (Mimì) at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna and Madama Butterfly at the Opéra de Montecarlo. On the concert side, she performed in Beethoven?s Ninth Symphony in Parma and Bologna, led by Gianluigi Gelmetti. |
Forthcoming engagements of Carla Maria Izzo include La Bohème at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, Simon Boccanegra at the Teatro Regio di Torino, I Masnadieri (Amalia) at Teatro Comunale di Bologna. She will also again take part in Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, in Rome and Prato, under the baton of Gianluigi Gelmetti. |
